I've found a good combination of replacement sights for older eyes. Those issue Mauser sights are for young men. It's simple and easy. Replace the front sight blade with a Brownells blade and file the notch in the rear sight that's square. The replacement sight post is tall and can be filed down for fine tuning. Using a replacement rear sight leaf avoids mutilating the original. This set-up is reversible so collector value isn't affected. The Brownells front sight blade is much wider than the original and is a square post on a dovetail. Just drift out the original, drift and fit the new dovetail for a nice fit. I also got a 'Firesight' front blade for a Mauser from Brownells but haven't installed it yet. It will be for either hunting or anything requiring a fast sight picture. When installing a replacement sight always adjust the new sight base for fitting, not the original dovetail. Then you can put the original back on when you want with no trouble.

Or, invest in some EyePal shooting aids for your shooting glasses and take 30 years off your eyesight.
