I have a Browning 78 with a shot out 22/250 barrel I am thinking about rebarreling to 32/40. My question is does anyone know if the barrel threads are metric or american I would like to know before I tear it apart and find out that I cannot thread the new barrel.

I think you will have to make a special extractor for that rim size. I know of only one rimmed cartridge, the 45-70 that was made along with cartridges based off the 30-06 case .473" Diameter in the Browning 78.

I can make a new extractor but if the barrel threads are metric my lathe will not cut metric threads so i will have to have someone else do the barrel. I dont want to tear the gun down till i know. Thank you for sharing intrest in my project.

I have rebarreled a few but I don't remember what threads they have.
