Being a casting greenhorn and wanting to cast a lot more I have some questions about fluxing. I have mostly cast pure lead for muzzleloading roundballs and some 20-1 BPCR bullets. But not many.
My dumb question is -- When fluxing how do you know if your are not removing important tin and such when scraping the ash looking stuff off the melt?
Or should I be trying to stir that back into the melt?
Do you know of a good tutorial on fluxing? I have used sawdust ,wax , commercial fluxes but still dont know if I am doing it right.

http://www.lasc.us/Fryxell_Book_Contents.htm Read Chapter 4. Glen explains it a lot better than I can.
