What is the BC of Lyman 308334/311334? Hands? Anyone? I'm thinking of having a mold made, this one looks like a good one to me but my old single cavity casts a tad small and I'm tired of beagling it. It's pointier than a 311299 and has a shorter body. Thanks in advance.

Lyman #3 says that 311334 is 187 Gr. BC of .340. How right that is, I don't know.

The Lyman 311334 was originally listed at a weight of 196 grains. It was also listed many years ago as designed for the 30-40 Krag. (early molds were marked 308334) It was one of my first molds and it cast a bit oversize but not excessively. I found it to be an excellent performer in my 03-A3 which has a 2 groove barrel and then later in my 1917. The explanation for that was made by Col. E. Harrison in the course of his investigation into 30 cal rifle shooting in The NRA Reloading handbook. It is important to have the bullets casting with a bullet body of at least .310 and a nose (bore-riding section) of at least .301. If not (lesser dimensions) then the bullet slumps cockeyed in the bore and comes out of the muzzle in the same crooked posture=inaccurate shooting. It feeds well because of the point and has good aerodynamics. LLS

If you like the mold you have Erik can put a "DD" band on the nose to bring it up to whatever size you need .

I recently sent him a 311299 that has a cast diameter of .316" the nose of course was only .298" which didn't help it any . I had him put a band on the nose big enough so I can use it in my Russian rifles . I bet it will get aligned a good bit better than it has been now .
