I have several 6.5x55 rifles, all I built myself. Had some good loads, 2100fps or so, seem to have lost the data. One I remember was using IMR 3031, about 28 grains behind a 140 Lyman gaschecked bullet, wheelweights with 1 inch groups at 100yds. I use a lot of 3031, in several calibers, buy the 8# kegs. Other was using 2330 powder, light load. Anyone using Unique, bullesye, etc., always like to hear good loads. All my rifles have either a 1-8 or 1-7 1/2 twist. Lets hear your favorite loads, and if you used a filler or not.

Geargnasher, Iused Lyman Orange magic lube, put on w/heater and lyman 450, sized 265, w gas check. The wheelweights had some tintype added to them, small amount. I was going byt the NRA cast bullet condensed manual. This load shot great, penetrated thru a 4" cedar post at 125yds. The other load was with AA2230, about the same load, it shot a little better, but dont quote me on the load, wil have to look itup. I wuz just wondering what everyone else shot, and about light loads. One of my rifles is a Savage 110,long action, I trued the action, put on a rife basix trigger, 1/2" surface ground recoil lug, and Douglass SS air gauged full bull26" 1-8 twist, best this company makes. This is bedded in a duramax bell and carlson, toped with Leupold bases and rings, 6x18 Burriss fullfield. The groups I am talking about shootin cast were with a CArl Gustav that I built, re headspaced the original 1-7&1/2 twist barrel, cut and crowned at 24", taperd in my lathe, drilled an tapped, bolt bent, parkerized, and bedded in a Ram line stock, timney featherweight deluxe with side saftey trigger. It has leupold rings and base, Burris 4x12 x40 fullfield. Been hunting with this gun since mid 80's, taken over 40 deer and 600 chucks, quiet a few yotes. It will shoot under 1/2 MOA with a 85gr, 120gr, and 140 gr load I worked up, with J bullets. Did not know of previous issue with this topic, just love the old swede.

I suggest that you do a search for the 6.5x55 Swedish, it has been done to death in the past.

There are also some pretty strong opinions on the subject some akin to secrecy of free masonry, so do a search please and not raise the dead 'till there is something more to add.

Whenever I see a new Swede thread I just hunker down in the bunker.

Whenever I see a new Swede thread I just hunker down in the bunker.

You and me both, my friend. You and me both.

If there is anything in this world at all that has tempted me to to log-off from here, delete my profile and never return, it is when those flare-ups between the primary players rise up. Makes us look like arf.com and worse.

Folks I just dont try to run them any faster than 2100fps, or slower. Accuracy trumps over velocity anytime, Just wondering what others shot, especially using pistol powder etc. Sorry I did not know about the past history involving this caliber, but it is one of my favorite. I appreciate all replies and concerns, but I guess EGO's can pop up anywhere. Hope this hasnt stirred a old pot, thanks for all those that replied with data.

Having spent the last couple hours reading the milk jug at 300 , 28 page thread and still shaking my head at some of the back and forth, there was good stuff in it , but a lot could have been left out , still a fun caliber to shoot .

I have not had such a rifle in years, but used to shoot a Mod. 38 Swedish Mauser, 24" barrel, with an NEI 160 grain RN (.268" sized to .266") about 15 BHN using 29 grains AA2230 powder. An accurate load with a MV of 2065 fps.
