Anyone have one of these molds? If so, can you provide the measurements, (Band width, overall length and weight)? I believe the one that I have had the cherry run in to deep.

Don't have the mold but not totally clear on what you mean by the
"cherry run in too deep" ?? Not sure what you mean. The cherry holds still and the
block halves close in on it. The only way to be "too deep" would be to make the boolit
too long, basically the base band would be wider than normal.

Is this what you are seeing?

I have the mold and just cast some a couple days ago. Problem is between this computer and my shop I wont remember what I went there for. I have left the shop for today but can try tomorrow, IF I REMEMBER!

Sorry, poor explanation on my part. My mold casts around 214-217gr. This is with alloy reclaimed from store bought cast bullets. By my measurements the lube groove is only .05", but what concerns me is the weight that this mold casts at.

Thanks

stratton ... The 201 is my favorite .45 ACP boolit. Mine drop at just under .453" at 204.5 gr. average when cast with WW's and enough lino to give a BHN of around 17. The total bullet length is .598". The round bottom lube groove is .060" wide and goes .402" diameter at the bottom. The top and bottom driving bands are both about .105" wide. From bullet nose to top driving band is about .320". You'll have to cut me a couple thousanths worth of slack on these measurements but hopefully they'll help.

I size mine at .452" in a Star with BAC lube and load to 1.235" over 5.8 gr. of 231 with a Fed 150 primer. Chrony's at about 885 fps average out of several 5" 1911's.

I'm curious to find out where your mold differs from these numbers.

doghawg,

Thanks for the specs. My mold dimensions are top driving band is .115", bottom driving band is .145", nose length is .315" and the lube groove .05". the overall length is .625". Like I stated above, mine drops with reclaimed commercial alloy between 214-217 grains.

I casted 282 bullets Tuesday, 15 weighed 214gr +/- .5grain; 120 weighed 215gr +/- .5; 122 weighed 216gr +/- .5 and the last 25 weighed 217gr +/- .5. The mold cast great, bullets are nearly round and are lightly sized by my .452 sizer. But, the weight bothered me.

Those are some pretty big differences in dimensions. Is your mold a recent production? Mine is about 2 years old. My weights have been very uniform but I'm a confirmed ladler.

If that mold was mine and it casted well and shot well I think I'd be happy with it but I'm surprised that RCBS had that much variation in their dimensions.

Brand new. Have not had a chance to test fire any loads, in the process of moving for a new job. I used load data for a 230 grain lead bullet instead of that for a 200gr. Hopefully, I get to test them in a week or two.
