A friend ,aka lucky so and so, just won a Beretta 40 cal. I'm going to try and get him started casting. Which mold? Searches have not turned much info accept for a Lee 401-175-TC, is this a good mold to start with? Any help will be appreciated.

That is my 40-10mm mold. It works well.

That is my 40-10mm mold. It works well.

Mine too. Should be just fine for plinking and paper punching with COWW's.

I have the version with standard lube grooves. Casts a very nice boolit and shoots and feeds well.

Great choice. Got the six cavity TL 401-175. Cast a lot of them this summer. Cycles perfectly in a Glock 23 and Hi-point. Very accurate with the right powder (not at home, can't recall. Either Acc #2 or Acc#5).

I'll toss another vote to the 6 cavity lee. Only thing, it is a bevel base but works well with the Lee pro1000 progressive. AggieEE

I've got the 2-cavity 175gr tumble-lube version, which works well enough for me over 6-7gr Power Pistol. If I could do it again, I'd definitely try the 6-cavity mold. It looks like Midway recently added a new, lighter-weight (145gr) bullet mold too, if you want a little more velocity... 401-145-SWC (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/488181/lee-2-cavity-bullet-mold-401-145-swc-40-s-and-w-401-diameter-145-grain-semi-wadcutter)

It worked well for me in a glock. However, it might be hard to find one right now.Ask around here and you might find one. I had one but already listed it on Ebay. The prices right now are a bit ridiculous. Here is an example....

I listed mine at 19.99$, but I suspect it will end much higher. There is a Mihec group buy right now that is a much better buy for the price if you can wait.

Thanks for the replies. He is not in a hurry, just trying to assemble the tools we will need. E-Bay is crazy right now.

Which beretta? I use the 175 TC, SWC & Accurate 165 TC in an XDm. I don't shoot the PX4 much.

In 2008, the 401-175 TC was the first new mold I had purchased since the 1980s. I actually bought the 401-145 SWC at the same time. I washed it with hot soapy water, rinsed it hot, and set it on top of the potto preheat. The first two boolits were keepers.

The 145 SWC shoots well but my brother prefers the 175 TC boolit. I ended up buying a second 175 TC so I could cast a whole bunch in a short time as I usually use two molds at a time. Between my wife, my brother, and my brothers from other mothers, we go through a lot of 40 in our Glocks!

Wow xacex, was that your listing? I knew some things went crazy but that is ridiculous. Makes me want to go into the gun room and list some stuff.

I agree with all above, a great little mold for a great price when I bought mine back in 2010, +1 on the 6 cavity if he plans to shoot a bunch, I got the 2 cav. but with me I enjoy the casting and reloading nearly as much as the shooting. Has worked well in CZ, S&W, High Point have not tried in a Beretta but see no reason it would have any problems.

I used the mold your asking about in both tumble lube and traditional lube. I had so-so performance with the tumble lube boolit but outstanding performance with the traditional lube version. Both are six cavity and both make beautiful boolits.

The Lee 401-175-TC is a great design. I've cast and loaded it in the .40 and the 10mm and love it. I also have a 2cav of the 401-145-SWC. That's a great shooter and I've killed a lot of squirrels using that bullet.

The Lee 401-175-TC has produced a LOT of boolits for me. For me it's a little more cranky to use than the Lyman 401638 which makes a very similar boolit. I get about the same number of boolits per hour with less effort on the Lyman. If- IF- I can ever get the Lee to drop boolits as easily and reliably as the Lyman it will be my go-to for the .40. I've Leemented it but need to try again I guess.

Not that one, but I did list a used 22 bator mold that went for over 300$ last week. It's nuts in there right now. I went into the cabinet and got out anything I haven't touched in over a year.

Here is another one that listed during my auction. It went for over 300$. Two tree hundred dollar auctions for lee .22 Bator molds in a week! Time to pull em out and list em if you got em.
