With a true 44 or even 429-430 I don't think there would be any shoulder left on an 06 case. 400 Whelan left very little shoulder but it was doable if chambered correctly. We did a 416 on a 284 Basic case that worked pretty good and fit a standard mauser action nicely.

I've thought about a 44-06 kinda like the 44 automag. adjust the case length & back ream for the boolit. Or a 44/308 in a '99 action. Basicly a rimless 444.

I found one for sale once and almost bought it but didnt. It was on a small ring Mauser action and was a very handsome rifle. I cant remember what was stamped on it for caliber. I think basicly it would be a 444 rimless.

there was mention of it back in a 2010 post about building cast boolit ar uppers in cast friendly calibers

it seems like 358 would be an easier to do easier to get molds for in good 35 cal boolit designs

I keep thinking if a savage comes along for the right price i will buy it up and put a 358win shillen barrel on it , that would be a solid cast boolit shooter in a bolt gun with a 1 in 14 twist

I built one on a remington pump 06. used an octagon barrel for entertainment value. Blew out the 06 to straight wall. It's a Bates 444 special. The biggest problem is the magazine. The factory one won't work. I made one up from scratch and it works pretty good. It really is just a rimless 444.
If I get some time tomorrow I'll try to get some pics posted. For me it really is a novelty more than a practical weapon. It has dropped a couple of deer round here.

edit; .429 to be precise

I have to admit, when I saw the thread title I thought "is he thinking of the .411 Hawk???" Without others' input saying that they'd done it, I'd have thought that headspacing would be a problem.....

I think a Mauser type extracter goes a ways in aleviating head space caused issues with this type cartridge.
Think 45 acp.
Ever try to see just how much roll crimp a 45 acp will tolerate before misfires begin? With a closely fit extracter you might be very surprised.
