Has anyone worked with a 219 using 55 gr cast with gas checks. I have a rem hepburn with a dougles barrel that was built up in the 60s. I have alot of imr4198 to use up.

Darn good cartridge but too much work to make brass. If brass was factory available it would rival the 22/250 in popularity at least in single shot rifles. Think of it as a rimed 22 BR. It is possible that if I were to dig deep enough I might find a freshly formed box of brass.

I just tried 11.0gr of imr 4198 and I had to look in bore to see if the round cleared ( felt like a 22 short in the 12lb gun). Then I moved up to 12gr shot without muffs was like a 22rf mag. Tomorrow I will crony and see where I am at. I only shot one 50 yd group and it was around 2 in will see what fps is and play with seating dept and try seating out farther tomorrow.I was running a dry patch after each shot. This time of year I shot from my reloading room and im looking for a cheep easy shooting load to punch paper at 100yds.

7.1 of Herco gave me single digit SD and about 1700 fps with 225415.
With limited testing I have not found a cast boolit load that makes me happy with the Donaldson or 222.

225415 is all I have cast, even though I have a mold for the RCBS 55 grainer

I doubt you would see much difference between those two designs anyway.
Maybe instead of fast powders you should try slow.
Fill to 100% dencity with 4831 and see what happens.

This morning I loaded 13.0 gr of imr4198 gun came alive shot three groups all under 1/2" at 50yds. My bullet is a old lyman 225462 sized
.225 with a copper gas check. I am shooting the same cases and not resizing. I am seating them touching the lands. Av for 9 shots was 2281 fps.
Maybe this evening when winds calm I can shoot at 100yds and see if I can get under the 1" goal.
