I've been checking into reloading for 410 and was reading ads and forum post on reloading the Megtech brass hulls. I keep seeing two views on these hulls when it comes to powders some say they can only be loaded with BP others say they can be loaded with smokeless as well. I sent Megtech a email asking them if the hulls can be used with smokeless powders to get it from the horse's mouth so I will know for sure before buying. I will post the reply from Megtech when I get it incase others have been wondering about reloading these hulls.

I've only ever heard of them being loaded with smokeless. Everywhere I've looked says they can easily handle much higher pressure than plastic or paper hulls assuming the shotgun itself can. Just remember that it has a larger inner diameter so many plastic .410 wads wont seal worth a darn.

On many of the sites that sell them say there for BP and lots of people say BP only others say they load them with smokeless. I myself don't see why they couldn't be used either way. I really wanted to buy RMC hulls but it seems they no longer make them so Megtech was a second choice. I'm still waiting on the reply from Megtech but I'll most likely buy them either way I would just prefer to use them with smokeless.

Load data would be a + also, I load 410 plastic and would like to try the brass hulls at some point.
Keep us posted

My friend and I loaded some with 296, for use in his Taurus Judge, in Magtech brass cases. We got the special oversized wads to use. We loaded some with just the oversized wads, and some with an oversized wad over the powder and a plastic .410 shotcup. Both loads used over the shot wads glued in place. We had approx 5/8 oz of shot in the loads. The loads with just the cardboard wads performed the best. The loads with the plastic shotcups were definitely weaker. I believe this was because they provided less resistance, reducing pressure buildup, and therefore less velocity than the cases using all cardboard wads. Brass shotshells are intended for black powder. Not being able to crimp to get proper pressure buildup, is a disadvantage in using smokeless powders. Using an easy to ignite powder, all cardboard wads, as much shot as you can get in the 2 1/2" case, with lots of glue on the over the shot wad, would give the best results using smokeless powder.

Still waiting for a reply from Megtach. I also have a few other emails out to other co's that use to make brass hulls to see if I can still buy them or order them as custom hulls.

Have used .444 marlin rifle cases to good effect in the .410. Powder / over powder wad / over shot wad / and Elmer's white glue.

Great news I got a reply from RMC and they are still making the 410 hulls. These are the hulls I was most interested in,RMC reply below........................
Yes, we make both sizes and they work with both BP and smokeless. We do
happen to have on hand (not a usual occurrence as we produce orders when
they come in) 2 boxes of the 3" and we even have a box of 2 1/4". The
prices are:

.410 3" $70/box of 20 plus shipping and handling
.410 2 1/2" $68/box of 20 plus shipping and handling

Thank you for your inquiry,

$70 for a box of 20 is steep.
are they true 3" or 2-3/4"?

From what I know they are true 410 3" and can us any standard 410 wad and load. They are fitted with 209 primer pockets and can be loaded the same as plastic hulls with a overshot card. They are a bit pricey but will last a lifetime I've heard some of the cowboy shooters have reloaded these hulls well over 3,000 times. The reason I wanted these are due to them being thick wall w/209 primers and being able to use standard 410 wads. The Megtech are thin wall and fitted for large pistol primers and don't work with standard 410 wads.

Got a reply from HBBS -.........Hello Tony,

There was never enough interest in the brass hulls to have a full run done for commercial sales, only the prototype runs and small test were completed. The brass has been put on indefinite hold. This was a big disappointment for us and hard to believe but that is how it is.

Thanks for asking.

Well still no reply from Megtech so I know one Co I won't be buying from. If they can't answer a few questions I have a feeling if there was ever a problem with their items one wouldn't get much help from them.

Sorry,I do not reload 410s. I did try and go back and search the CMP forum for the information. They had discussed reloading this casing a few times but I could not find.
