Hey Guys,
A friend sent me his BE gun that was giving him some issues. Once I fixed what I thought were the problems, I still wasn't satisfied with the groups from this gun. I told him that I was pretty sure that ammo was the problem. I made up some ammo specifically for this gun and this was the results at 25 yds.
This is the smallest group I have ever shot from a 1911 ever and I have shot a lot of them. After the first group I put up a new backer board to make sure I was seeing this correctly and that I wasn't just missing the whole target and not counting all the shots. For this group I went down range and marked each hole after each shot.
The load was 3.6 grains of Bullseye, Winchester brass, Fed lp primers and the RCBS 45-201-SWC, sized .4525", 50%WW 50%Pb with FWFL
You know the old saying "Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while".

Real Nice. The semi wadcutters always seem to shoot great in mine. I just had some issues with feeding.

Thanks guys.
Most of the credit needs to go the gunsmith that originally set up the gun. It was the legendary Roddy Toyota. My friend just had a few issues come up and he did not want to send off his gun with the BE season going on. I also shot some groups using the same load but using the Lyman 452460 instead of the RCBS Boolit. They were also very good but not as good as this load
John,
Take a look at the feed ramp and the throating of your gun. Most factory feed ramps can stand a lot of polishing. Don't change the angle, just polish out the machining marks. Same goes for the throat on the chamber. Another issue could be magazines. I have found that Metalform 7 round magazines with a round top followers work very well.
Good luck, jmsj.

That is an outstanding target JM!!!
I have a Colt Commander XSE at the gunsmith right now. A 4" target is the best I could do with it from 25yds.
Can't wait to get it back, he is fitting an Ed Brown bushing to the barrel, a trigger job, and a bead blasting.

Wow, that's the kind of group I get with a Ruger 10/22 and a 12x scope at 25 yards! Excellent! I have heard great things about those Ultra Dot red dot's too.

this almost sounds creepy........cause after about 700 rounds threw my new ruger1911,,one of the most accurate loads is,,,you guessed it,3.6 BE,,fed 150 primer,452460 made out of 50/50 ww pure...Only difference is,im using rem cases.

The ruger will shoot 1.5 inch groups,,not one holers,,,,,,,,

maniac,
3.6 gr BE and a 200 gr. SWC was the old standard for the short line (25 yd). I use it a lot for testing target/bullseye type 1911's. Anyone got an all around good 50 yd. line load?
For a factory untuned gun 1.5" is really great! This gun was reworked and set up by one of the best competition Bullseye gunsmiths in the nation.
I just found the load it seems to like for the 25 yd line.

Jim,
If you mean the part about the one of the best competition Bullseye gunsmiths, in post #4 I gave the credit to Master gunsmith Roddy Toyota. He has been turning out championship guns for decades. I also stated that I merely found a load that the gun likes.
But I was pretty proud of the grouping. For me this is the best group I have ever fired from a 1911.
