View Full Version : 358 wc
Been shooting some Speer 148 WC lately. If you were going to order a Lee 6 cavity mold what would you get the 358-148-WC or the TL358-148-WC? I'm going to tumble lube and I know you can TL regular boolits. Just wonder if one shoots better than the other?? Going to shoot 3 grains of Red Dot in a 38 Sp.
Thanks

for the light loads you are using I would go the tumble lube. I have been getting more warmed up to them and been having great results. Russ

I have the 6 cavity TL mold and I do tumble lube and shoot as cast. It works for me!

Besides your 3 gr. Red Dot load with the 148 gr WC, you might try the same 3 gr. load of HP-38 or Winchester 231. I was buying those 2 powders in 8 lb. jugs back in my target shooting days, and still am!Robert

The Lee TL 358-148 WC shoots very good for me in my S&W 14-6. I like that boolit a lot out of a 6 cav. mold. I lube with LLA and I don't size the boolits.I do run the loaded round through the Lee carbide crimp die. If I remember right my mold drops the boolits at about .360. The powder of choice for me is Bullseye at 3.5 grs............Terry

My vote is for the Standard design, not the TL. You can tumble lube it just as well as the TL design, and if at some later date you decide to try a different lube system, the standard design will work better. Back in my PPC days, I ran a 148 grain WC over 3.0 Bullseye or 3.3 grains of WW-231.
I tried the WC in my Marlin 1894 and they cycle like butter. I would have never thought they would work in a lever gun.

I have the lee wad cutter with regular lube grooves. But I don't tumble lube. I like knowing exactly what my boolits are sized to. +1 on the 3 gns of 231. This has got to be of my most accurate loads I shoot.

I vote for the traditional lube grooves. That nice big meplat makes a dandy defensive boolit and can be driven hard into the 1500s in a 357. The TL design will limit you to 800 fps. That may be fast enough for your currently planned 38s, but you may want to expand your menu when you see how good they work. Like has been mentioned, you can certainly TL the traditional gooved boolits.
