Shot a few 148gr lead from a s&w 38 today using red dot . Now if I had more small pistol primers left would load more. All I have now are magnum primers.Might try red dot with mag primer. Does it really matter?

No problem, adjust powder to match equivalent recoil that you are used to. ... felix

I agree with Felix and believe I have some Winchester small pistol that the label reads for standard and magnum loads.

The mag primers may create enough energy to move the boolit out of the case before the powder fires. Actually, the .38 case is large enough to take some of the pressure and the Red Dot is a fast igniting powder so it might not make enough difference. If you can, send them over a chronograph and do a comparison. If the bullet moves out far enough to make a difference you may well get leading due to the lower pressure of the powder starting after the launch.
