A very close friend just passed away and his wife would like to sell one of his rifles, I would like to buy it but don't know what to offer, I am not looking to get it at a discounted price and want to pay fair market price for it. It is in new unfired condition and does have a tang sight. The original box is long gone. Does anyone have any Idea what I should offer. If this is in the wrong forum I do apologize. If it turns out I can't afford it I will probably post it in the Classifieds section.

$800 is fair. I have seen them as high as $1100 but that is more than I would pay.

Good info on this thread http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?166815-A-Couple-of-Trapdoors-for-your-viewing-pleasure

Not the Officer's Model, but I have the Little Bighorn Commemorative carbine. It's certainly a pretty piece, and is a VERY accurate shooter. H&R apparently makes (or made) fine barrels! I bought it used and the PO had scribbed a couple elevation lines on the plain unmarked staff. Don't know what his loads were but my favorties didn't match his marks! I've never had an issue with it in any way.

I recently bought an H&R Officers model with a slight crack in the forend cap but otherwise in perfect condition. No box....I paid $700

There was a like new H&R Officers model that just sold in a local gun shop for $1000

I would also say that w/o the tang sight and no box that $700 is a fair offer.

I also have an OM and a LBH. I've added original M1879 sights to both, a Beech front sight to the OM and switched the pistol grip adaptor from the LBH to the OM. Awesome shooters both!
