Marvel Mystery Oil as a lube additive ??

I was thinking about trying a new homemade lube

50/50 Paraffin/ Vaseline

and then maybe adding Marvel Mystery Oil.

a small batch to start with like half a cup each wax and Vaseline. then like a teaspoon of Marvel Mystery Oil.

has anyone ever tried Marvel Mystery Oil as an additive before?

I know guys that clean guns with it. so my thought was it could help keep a clean bore like bore butter in a black powder gun.

what do you all think?

I've been using the following:

Beeswax 100 grams
Carnuaba wax 10 grams
Lanolin 10 grams
Marvels Mystery Oil 10 grams

The Marvels Mystery Oil just happened to be what I had on hand when I decided the other three ingredients were a little too stiff on their own. The lube is nice and sticky, stays put and works just fine in my lubrisizer.

I rarely have to do more than push a dry patch through to clean the barrel. I suspect the carnuaba wax helps more in that area than the MMO.

Never tried it with BP.

I've used MMO in place of ATF in several different recipes for lube and bore/gun cleaning stuff...

BTW, I've used , with some success, Beeswax softened with MMO as a lube for my .38 and .44 Specials.

Does the MMO bleed out of the lube or stay put??

Stays put in beeswax, never tried it with anything else.

As a lube you say it works, but how about accuracy, and what are you calling accuracy? What kind of gun are you shooting it out of, and at what velocity and the distance with group size?

Not trying to rain on anybody but accuracy for plinking verses bench rest shooting is two different things.

i upped it to 1 tablespoon MMO
with 1 cup each Paraffin/ Vaseline

Marvel Mystery Oil changes formula whenever. Years ago it was on the heavy side of things and caused spark plug fouling big time at the recommended doses per tank of gas. This was in late 1970s. Have not used it since in cars except when folks gave me their leftovers. Never tried it in lube stuff. ... felix
