I just purchased a Tikka , T-3, in cal. 338 Federal.

I recently purchased an old NEI mold that cast a perfect 262 gr. gas checked bullet.( I was told that Walt made this one )

I also have an RCBS mold that is throwing a 207 gr. g/c HP bullet.

I'm sizing .3395 " and lubing with Ben's Red , using Hornady .338 gas checks.

Right now, I have 5 round lots loaded and ready for range testing ( with both weight bullets ) loaded with Red Dot , 2400, SR-4759.

I'll be testing these tomorrow.

I can't see a white-tailed deer slowing this bullet down , I figure this one will do a " number " on a buck's shoulders :

if they are about perfectly round, well vented, and fall from the mold as soon as you open it,or with a light shake i'd lay money on walt making it.
i have two of his molds and i think the boolits fall out of the mold before i open it fully.

This is one of the best molds that I own. A real pleasure to cast with.

I shot the 338 Tikka today.
For the " 1st day out ", I was pretty pleased.
More work to do.........I had " 4 in 1 hole " and pulled the last round that struck low.

This is the bullet that I was shooting today :

I'm in full agreement with you,

I don't think there is a white tail here in Alabama that will even slow this puppy down.

The more I read about the 338 Federal , the more interested in it I become. Seems to be a cartridge with a lot of potential.

Based on the .308 Win. parent case, I don't find it unusual for it to show the accuracy potential that it does. The .308 has been a real winner for many years along with all its " off spring ".

Question for Ben....All of your rifles seem so well trained! Have you ever purchased a rifle that wasn't a shooter?

No I have not, I don't own a chrony.

I'm reminded of the statement..........The only interesting rifles are the accurate ones.

Yes, I've had my fair share of " junkers ".

Most of what remains with me now ( about 40 + rifles ) are real shooters.

Robert,

The 338 Fed. will always hold 2nd place to the 338 / 06 in power , ( esp. with the hvy. weight bullets).

However, here in Alabama , the 338 Fed. will be an effective killer on anything I'm likely to use it on.
