Have any of you fitted a new barrel with a different calibre than what the 219 was chambered for? I know it would involve making new lugs for the hindge pin and forearm. Were they brazed on or how? I have one in 30-30,but would like one in 7-30 Waters or 7.62X39.

I have an older model 219 and have considered the same thing (re-barrel in different cal). After looking at mine closely, it seems to me to be a bigger job than I first thought. I was dreaming of a 500S&W chambering.

I did a stub job in 357 mag on a 20 gauge small firing pin 220B. Works just fine and easy to do. A LOT easier than trying to make a lug assembly and weld it to a new barrel. I'm certain you could do the same thing for 30/30 or similar rounds. The 219 and 220's have the same configuration in the bottom lug and lock up.

Bill, what do you mean by stub job? Cutting off say 5" of the 20 gauge breech end and then turning the new barrel to fit the bore? That does sound a lot simpler.

Yup. Make the new barrel a reasonably snug slip fit into the cutoff breech end of the shotgun barrel, silver-solder it all together, and you're good to go. There's a guy who has a thread here that does this for Contender and Encore barrels, although I think the lug in his case is a machined-from-solid part. It's also widely done in the manufacture of double-barrel shotguns, including some very high grade ones.

I have made the front half of converting break action single shot shotguns to rifle 3 times.

It is a horrible amount of work for a putz like me.

I have a couple old Sav 219s that are waiting for it.

I would not walk across the street for my Sav 219 d l rifle, it is not coming apart again. I agree with De Haas, the earlier the 219 Sav the better.
