Around here, you can buy a VCR at Goodwill for less than $5, and I'm don't know of anyone that still repairs them.

I thought I was the only guy that still had a VCR....
They wont work with digital cable.

What's digital cable??

Unless you are watching VHS movies, they shouldn't need a cleaning to just use the tuner.
That being said, what typically goes is the drive belts. They are pretty easy to change.

(V)ery (C)rappy (R)ecorder
All tv signals are digital over the air or cable, no more analog
You now need a digital tv or conveter.

Hey! I resemble that remark. Still use my VCR several times a week. Works fine.
Did pick up a spare at Goodwill recently for $5, for the day that it might fail me.

I am currently in NYS and using an old Panasonic VCR to record shows on Time Warner cable. Seems to be working fine at this point.

VCR? Sure! Cable/Sat cable? Nope. Gave up on TV over a year ago, waste of time & money. I'll watch a DVD on my laptop now and then.
