I kinda like a 4" tube on a 44 for a handy carry gun. I have shot a 3" and with full loads that was too much of a handful. It di shoot very well with a special load though. In a contender I would trim it to the end of the foreend.

I didnt know why the law is on short barrel s on a TC ,

I had a 6-1/2" 50-70 made up, and that length is about 1/2" longer than the old style short wood forend, which I think looks great. This gun is extremely accurate, and if cut correctly, I can't forsee any problems in cutting your .44.
