Good Morning;

I'm wanting a 308 barrel for my encore, and I'm trying to decide between the standard contour 24" barrel and the heavy contour 26" barrel. This will be for hunting uses, and I probably won't ever take a shot with it past about 500 yards.

Suggestions?

I like my 24" with William's Fool Proof sights, but I shoot only cast. YMMV

I had the heavy contour 26" barrel and got good results with Barnes bullets. I never did shoot cast through it.

Good Evening;

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm mainly concerned with accuracy, not speed, at this point. I like the look of the short bull barrels, and I want something that is handy in the woods, I'm just wondering if there is a change in the level of accuracy by going with the shorter and thinner barrel.

i would say no my Encore 30/06 24" heavy barrel and my 17" 308 bull barrel
will both shoot under 1" at 100 yards and i'm not a great shoot the longest shot
i took was just over 300 yards with my 30/06 but the deer woul be just as dead
if i had my 308 in my hands

Good Evening;

Thanks for the info. I've sent Ed at Ed's TC a few emails, but haven't heard back from him. I'm figuring if he has a 24" barrel, I'll pick one up and and put a Weaver K4 scope on in. If I can't hit a deer with that, I probably don't need to be hunting.

Thanks again,
D
