Soliciting your thoughts for a scope on a NTM Mossberg Model 46 M B. I've been back and forth on several but haven't pulled the trigger; mainly due to fleabay sniping and other rediculous prices. I'm looking for something that is period correct (1945-55 ish) to complement the rifle. Initially I've been looking at Weavers: 330, 440, 29S, and K 2.5 or 4.

Would like to know your thoughts on a "proper" scopes and purchase locations other than the auction sights and fleabay- I'm already watching those.

Regards, Ron

I have an early K-4, with the small front lens, small turrent caps, cross hairs are probably the type that move as opposed to centered. Glass is good, blueing would clean up pretty good. One turrent cap is missing and a dent in the top of the other one. This is probably the first weaver to have turrent caps because the adjustment knobs look like the ones that were exposed. I would take 35.00 shipped for the scope. If you are interested, pm me.

Have I got a deal for you. Picked up an Anschutz 64 target , had a Mossberg branded scope on it. Model A 25 2.5-5x variable. I'm not a collector so would like to see it go to a good home. Don't know if I can even ship it to the US as we can't order scopes from there.http://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae4/metalbendr/IMG_2518_zpsa5b487da.jpg

Many people claim to be sick and tired of going to gun showes, this is one of the reasons I attend showes, I usually find good deals for older name brand scopes that fit older guns I have in my collection. Makes them period correct.

I have a Weaver T-20 that would bring out the best in your rifle.

The Weaver J-2.5x & J-4x are also viable contenders; and there's usually a vintage scope or three F/S in the scope classifieds, over on www.rimfirecentral.com (http://www.rimfirecentral.com)

However.....................................

I don't see any scope grooves on the receiver top for the "tip-off" mounts popular back then; nor can I make out any D/T on bbl or receiver for a side-mount scope base - another popular aftermarket option, in the day.

I DO see the rifle's factory D/T'd for a receiver peep sight - which may be the best option for keeping the rifle completely original - a not inconsiderable point, given what appears to be a vintage rifle in pristine condition.

I'd be loathe to alter it permanently............................

This site may be of some help to you, click on .22 rifle parts and scrool down, there is a scope mount offered, but it is not period correct.

Thanks for the offers; right now I'm in the info collecting stage, however I will consider each. I already have a line on an S130 peep sight (I hope it pans out) and am looking for an OEM scope mount. The rifle is (factory) drilled and tapped. I visted Havlin site last week and have a front sight hood, red and green pegs on the way. I saw the mount and that's what started this search for a period correct scope.
The rifle does seem to be in very good condition. I'm getting it from Old Guns and have had great experiences with them on other purchases. They rate it 96-98% on bluing, so I'm just trying to gather the remaining parts to keep the rifle as close as I can to original and period correct. I don't know why- just am.
Keep the opinions coming, I normally just read and not post much.

If you watch on evilBay and Gunbroker you will see the occasional Weaver J2.5 or J4 with a Litschert booster on it. Nice vintage combo that is also a pretty decent scope. The Litschert objective is enough bigger that it brightens up the little J4 amazingly. Typical prices about $125 to $150. I'm only telling you this because I've already got mine.

The old weaver straight tubed scopes always look good on the full stocks.

A k-3 with the rare target dot reticle on a old anschutz fs from the 1950's.
