Been thinking about a new shotgun. I have a 870 Express that I think is GREAT!! I've always wanted a Semi-Auto shotgun so I'm starting to look for one and need some opinions. I'm listing the ones I could possibly afford.

Remington 1187

Franchi Affinity

Mossberg 930

Will be an all purpose shotgun hunting, skeet and trap. Probably be a 28" barrel in 12 Gauge want it to shoot 2-3/4" and 3" shells (3-1/2" would be nice but not necessary!). I'm looking for opinions its not something I'm gonna buy tomorrow I need to save lots of pennies and want to get my homework done!!

Thanks

The 930 is the most bang for the $$$ - all good choices. I would go with the 930

I have had Rem 1100's in 20ga & 12ga for years and have never had a problem. Love 'em! I understand that the Rem 1187 is basically just a new and improved 1100. I don't think you would be disappointed with it.

You should find somebody with a Franchi Affinity/Benelli Super 90 and shoot it for a while. Some folks find them 'fatiguing' for extended shooting like skeet, clays or trap.

I too am a Remington 1100 fan and love my 1100, when it first came out, it was my dream gun, so beautiful, but could not buy one as I was still living in India.
Soon as I arrived in the Great USA, that was the first thing I bought!

Warmest regards,

I picked up a Stoeger M3500 for under $600 new. It is a really nice semi-auto and shoots 3.5". I know it wasn't on your list but might be worth checking out.

If I were you, I would look for a good used Beretta 303, 390 or 391.

Failing that - at least the Remington is easy to fix and parts are easy to get.

But I am a trap shooter - so I see things differently. I have a Beretta I use for hunting and can shoot trap with it but not very well.

Not on your list but I have always been partial to Winchester shotguns. Including my current go to a SuperX2. So far it has ate everything I shot in it 3 ½, 3 and 2 ¾.
