ok so i'm starting to cast for 243 win. And i was thinking maybe we could put together a list of loads that work for people.

reduced loads would be very helpful as i don't find many published ones for the 243win

i'm casting RCBS 243-095-SP

11-13 gr 2400, your groups will tell you when to stop.

10gr. Red Dot, 11 gr. AA#2 both work well for me.

I had one years ago, notes say 19.7 grains 4198 with a 90 grain GC Loverin-style boolit cast in Linotype, with a CCI standard primer, and generously pan lubed with NRA Alox. (I generously lubed everything with NRA Alox back then, kitchen stove, floor, my dungarees, etc.) No note on seating depth, but I'm pretty sure it was crammed into the lands by at least 1/16" It was a picky load - up or down half a grain, or change primer, and it fell apart. But when it was right the Rem 700 BDL would shoot close to 1 MOA for three groups out of five, and never worse than 3 MOA when there was a flyer. As good as j-warts would do in that rifle. Never had a good use for it though, and I had a hard time getting good boolits from that mould.

Yep, I use that one too. In the 6mmX222 and the 243 win.

And yes, Green Dot works fine too. Load at 1/2 grain more than Red Dot for the same speed.

umm. are you guys crimping to hold the boolit?

i loaded one shell in to the gun then took it out( hoping to look at rifle marks on the boolit)
but the boolit stayed in the chamber so i had to pop it out with a rod.

i'm thinking this will get worse when i use the 'M' die.

i have never crimped for 243.

Seat it deeper. .243 doesn't have much throat in it usually. But no, I never crimp. Just resize with the Lee collet die and seat boolits. No M die.

how tight is the neck after you use the collet die?

i was seating the base past the inside of the neck. but i checked the bullet that pulled out it had swagged down to.243 [my bore is .244 and before seating the boolit was .245]

You can control the tension, to a point, with the collet die. But even full tight it probably isn't enough for the jacketed shooters and just about perfect for the boolit shooters.

I don't put a flare on the mouth when using this die, just chamfer the edge and the gascheck will find its way in and not shave lead.

Do make sure those boolits are hard. I either water drop them at a minimum or even better oven heat treat them. Those little boolits at very high rotational speeds need every help they can get.

20 grains of H4895 has worked well for me. After that accuracy went out the door.

It isn't a boolit load but the first load I had for .243 was determined by the dipper in my Lee Loader. 38 grs of 4064 behind either a Speer 80 gr. spitzer of Hornady 100 gr. RN. The 80 gr load shot well under 1" and put paid to a lot of woodchucks and crows. The 100 gr Hornady worked nicely on deer. Best part of it was that they both shot to the same point of impact at 100 yds.

That was a long time ago, 1968 when I started loading with the Lee, stayed with that load after I got better equipment until I sold the rifle in a time of poverty.
