Looking to get a Hornet. I need suggestions on a good rifle. I used to have a Ruger 77/22H and never had good luck with it. It shot patterns instead of groups. Two trips back to the factory gave no improvement so I traded it off. Would appreciate any suggestions on a good and accurate 22 hornet. Thanks.

I have a Sportco in 22 hornet. It's one of my fovourite rifles. It's an australian built rifle on a martini action. I doubt you'll see many outside Australia.
What about a good used brno/CZ? Quality rifles and accurate too, from what I am told.

Old Brno if you can find it and want to pay the price. Otherwise check out the CZ 527.

Friend of mine has a Savage Model 40 single shot most accurate .22 Hornet I have seen nearly as good as a .222 Rem. Robert.

Years ago I bought a new Sako 78 in 22 Hornet. I really liked it but foolishly let it go. I now regret it.

I have owned a number of .22 Hornets but my current CZ 527 American is the best I have had.

Saw an advertisement the other day for a Chiappa 2/3 scale sharps in 22 Hornet. Now that would be interesting if it is a good shooter.

I recently obtained a used accessory barrel with bases in .22H for my TC83 at a bargain price. It shoots consistent MOA groups with very little load development. I haven't tried cast bullets in it yet, and probably won't. Part of a previous bargain purchase, was 10 boxes of Hornady .222 40 gr. Jet bullets. I had no great hopes they would shoot well, but sometimes the magic works and I blundered into a winning combo. I think this comes under the heading of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

If you have a Contender Frame a Hornet barrel will not set you back much to give it a try. TC chambered some really nice factory barrels and a few duds depending on who was running the reamer in. Some of mine shoot really nice.

I also had accuracy problems with my Ruger 77/ 22 hornet , i bought it as soon as they came avalible.
it made 3 trips back to the factory to no avail , tried different powders , primers , bullets, 2 Leupold scopes 3.5x10AO and a 6.5x20AO , also changing the bedding with business cards nothing worked ! the best i could do was 1 inch at 50 yards.
MY # 3 ruger that developed head space problems , the action would close on a no go guage , sent it back Ruger said within spec , traded it , but it would shoot !! had a 2x7 leupold on this one
Have a contender pistol in 22 hornet with a 14"and 10" barrel both barrels would do a inch at 100 yards with a 2x7 scope.
Eventhough i have had a few good Ruger rifles , i will not buy any more of them!
Id buy the CZ if i was buying a 22 hornet!

I have had excellent service from my Ruger, but I think the CZ 527 is considerably more accurate. I've had a lot of luck with my Handi rifle in the Hornet too. For the money, (less than half) of the price of a CZ, it puts it in the running. In my Contender carbine, it's probably least accurate but I carry it the most. On paper I don't think I could get a group anywhere near an inch, but out to 150 yards, I seldom have any woodchucks more it back to report. It probably has to do with the configuration of the stock, it's not like snapping in with a full size rifle. Depends on your expectations. Average accuracy is normal with the Hornet, sure some shoot great, my CZ will hold an inch all day long. But that is relatively unusual. If your hunting, it's one of my all time favorites. If your paper punching, it can be pretty annoying, especially with cast bullets. :)

I've owned the Ruger heavy barrel, laminate stocked, 22 Hornet since it was first introduced. I must have got a good one. I use it from 100 - 200 yds on standing Jacks, and 200 + on P-Dogs. Really hard to miss.

Contender is a lot of fun to hunt with. The best rifle I ever had that was chambered in 22 hornet was a Winchester Model 43. Should never have traded it.
