Hi, everybody....

Ok, I tried the IMR4227 with this bullet and it didn't have much kick to it.

Basically, I bought this mold used to be able to cast something fun with lots of BOOM for my S&W686. Any suggestions of a fun load with this bullet behind a gas check?

Oh, the IMR4227 was a good load. It went where I wanted it to go on the target and grouped nice. Just I was hoping for a little bit more fun with it. :(

What sort of fun?
I used that bullet with 4227 powder in a Ruger BH at one time. I don't recall the charge wt. but do recall that it grouped around 1" - 1 1/4" at 25 yds. I took my first handgun buck with the combo. A 35 - 40 yd. quartering shot entered behind the last rib and exited the chest just inside the opposite shoulder. Admittedly the velocity was not very high but apparently it was enough.

686? What kind of rifle is that? You need a bigger launching platform. Try 58 grains of RL15 in a Whelen for just over 2600 fps with a 24" barrel. Not REAL accurate, but it get's down the road.

Years ago I used that bullet in a 8" Dan Wesson .357 Mag. with a load of AA#9 for metallic silhouette. I don't remember how many grains right off hand but it shot well and seemed to carry the 200 meter Rams when I did my part.
