I'm looking fo load suggestions for this combination.
My starting load will be 15gr of H110 gas checked and seated to the crimp grove.
Are there any suitable loads using Herco, Alliant 2400, Blue Dot or Reloader 7 (I can get these powders) that would make about 1600fps in a 16" barrel with this bullet??
So far my favorite powder is H110. I can get Lil Gun but have read about it causing pistols to get very hot so have been hesitant to try it.

16 to 17 grains of Reloader 7 is a good place to start with that boolit. I havn't tried those other powders you mention, but I have used Lilgun and got some pretty good results with it.

h110 or ww296 will not cycle an AR with a carbine gas system before you run into pressure problems...

try accurate 1680 i am loading to around 12 to 12.3 and getting good results

My 16" barrelled 300 AAC with carbine gas system cycles fine with H110 and no pressure problems

That's what I ended up with.

Another something to try is a starting load of 12 grains of Lilgun under that boolit. That is the only load I have found so far that allows proper function and allows the brass to eject without getting beat on the body or mouth.

17 grains of RL 7 would be just about fill the case - is it Ok to compress RL 7?

I've found my most consistant cycling with H110. 15.3gr cycles my AR just fine.

What size are we running the Lee155? .30, .310?
Also oal?
I will be ready to load some soon.

Compressing Reloader 7 isn't a problem as long as pressures remain ok and compression doesn't deform the case.

I size my Lee 155 to .310", and have shot .310 j-words without problems. I havn't measured OAL with this boolit, just seat them to the crimp groove and crimp lightly.

I run mine sized to .310 and OAL at 2.055, but that's what works for me. Most just seat em at the crimp groove.

I have loaded the 155 gr cast with 16 gr Reloader 7. I don't have a chrono, so does anyone have a good guess on the velocity of this load. I am shooting out of a 20 inch barrel.

Thanks,

Bill

Same here. 16gr h110, sized to .309 and crimped to groove.

My son and I both have 16" carbine gassed AR's in 300 BO, different barrel mfg's and they BOTH cycle perfectly with 15gr of H110 and the Lee 155 312 with no pressure signs at all.

Must be something wrong with the air over there in Winston, seems different when I get out of my car at work anyway (I work in Winston-Salem). :kidding:

My SBR pistol upper is just in love with water quenched 50/50 and 15 gr. H-110. Hogs dont seem to care for it much.

15.5 grains H110 cycles in my 16" carbine gasses blackout, but wont lock the bolt back. 15.6 to 16.3 grains seems to be the sweet spot I am working within. Any more than that and the brass is only good for a couple of reloads. Went all the way to 18 grains which is max for 300 whisper trying to get 2000fps (40fps short), but even with LC brass the brass was junk after one reload. Don't try it please. The load is unsafe, and all it would take is a bad piece of brass to ruin your day, and your gun. However, accuracy was tightening up at those velocity's, and that would be the reason I have gone to Lil Gun to get close to those velocity's without the pressure problems. Lil gun is not good for cold temps, and I have been told you can have a kaboom with temps below freezing. More, and more it looks like I need to try some RE-7.
I think 1750 to 1800 fps is a reasonable expectation of maximum/safe velocity with this boolit.
