Trying to find a source of pure lead to cast some muzzle loader bullets. I'm from the Adirondack area of NY state and could use some help. Everything today has gotten expensive; just looking to pay a fair price!!

The stick-on wheelweights are fairly soft lead. I tend to toss them off to the side and use them when I need soft lead (RB for the cap and ball revolvers, for example). They work fine when loading tight patch and ball combinations in my rifle as well, even a .530" roundball and .017" patch will leave impressions of the fabric in a ball.

Go to a salvage yard and ask for sheet lead. Grade A is 4.8 to 5.0 Bhn. The other 2 grades are in the 6 Bhn range. Any of the grades will shoot in a ML

Another source is battery terminal clamps off our automobiles.

And keep an eye out here - I just got 65 pounds of lead reclaimed from a .22 only indoor range for just over a dollar a pound shipped. It's dead soft...

Baja Traveler, you just made my day. The local .22 only range sells their scrap to that Other scrap yard in my area. From them, it will be cleaner. Thank you.

I bought 300lbs of roof flashings last fall for 30 cents a pound from a recycler. According to my scale it yielded 294 pounds. You might call a roofing co and see what they do with their's.

A small source of lead can be gotten from stained glass shops. Since the proprieters tend to be "artsy" I tell them it is for casting fishing sinkers. Some of the "H" shape edging is very soft. It is soft enough for round ball casting and low power pistol loads. If not, buy a bag of high antimony birdshot and alloy it. I separate the soldered ends. Most of them have a bucket into which they toss the clipped ends. I've gotten 20-50 lbs every 3-4 months. Just look up stained glass shops and call them up to see what they do with the scraps.
