so, i bought a remington model 16 just the other day.
i payed $100 for it.

today after some research i have determined that it is
a break down gun, and that it is not .22lr, but it is chambered in
22 remington autoloading

can anyone tell me anything about these guns?
thanks

The cartridge is slightly larger in diameter than a standard 22rf. If you chamber and get a 22LR to fire in the rifle it'll generally split the case.
The 1903 Winchester semiauto 22 was chambered for a similar slightly oversized 22rf.
One will interchange with the other, but I don't recall now which is is the longer and shorter cased of the two.
Remington called theirs a 22 Remington RimFire IIRC but it's called a 22 Remington Special sometimes too.

Neat little rifles that only suffer from the odd caliber just like the 1903 Winchester's do.
I've seen some attempts to convert to standard 22LR. The sellers always say they worked like a charm,,but I had my doubts.

I did do a restoration on a factory F grade some years back. A beautiful little rifle w/ European walnut stock and full engraving w/ gold inlays.

the 16 definatly offers a perfect gun for elaborate engraving with its bare huge slab sides
