A fella with coin out the wazoo spent who knows what to have the local smith find him a 50 ex m86 win receiver of nickle steel, get a 26" 50 cal barrel from win. from another smith who had had one. Strap the whole thing together with new wood. Now I gotta get a steel receiver sight cause that aluminum sickens me, and I gotta get a mold with crimp groove and hopefully GC cause I gotta hurl em fast cause of the 1:56 twist. But anyhoo it'll give me something to play with

That is a handsome gun there, your right about the sight. Now, about that mold, this look promising?

Thats an NEI design, I have a NEI 50cal myself and can recommend them.
That being 435 gr GC should do just fine in your Express. If you can do without the GC the Lyman 515141 is the boolit to seek.

I'd run this by Felix and let him tell you the length of boolit that will stabilize. I think your too long and heavy with that.

You dont think the 435 would fly?

NEI may be willing to cut a shorter version, heck it's no charge to ask. That was the lightest GC version I believe but he may have other cherries available.

Fly yes, straight and accurately is another question. The old slow twist express rifles used a light for caliber shorter boolit. Lyman offers a light PB at around 340 gr. I believe. Check it out.

We can play games with length easily because NEI uses cherries and there is no need to change a computer program, i.e., for computerized tools. They can just insert the cherrie at the least depth necessary to not allow the gascheck area be included. What are the typical twists used for muzzle loaders, say 540 mini-boolits, and the length of those pills? From 54 cal to 51 cal should indicate no more reduction in length than a tenth inch. I will see if I can reload that twister program I have somewhere. For some reason, I did not add it back after changing the computers here at home to new stuff. ... felix
