Reality nullifies theory with great frequency, but I prefer sliding sleeves and all my rifle seating dies, save two, are either Hornady's New Dimension or Lyman's Precision Alignment.

Used them in .30-30 and .35 Whelen, tried them in a couple pistol sets but have changed to using RCBS or Redding dies exclusively. I didn't find that the Hornady seated any straighter and the extra length due to the sleeve sticking out below the die just made positioning the bullet more time consuming.

I have a Hornady seating die in 30.06 that put a slight mark on the bullet - I called Hornady tech support and they sent a new seating stem and that fixed the problem. Other than that I have Hornady die sets in 270, 30-30, 6.8, 223, 44 spec, 45LC etc. and I like them. I personally like the sliding sleeve

Between the Lyman M die and the Hornady seaters, my bullets consistently seat much straighter than before, but not always perfect. However, I "needed" one more for 45acp to replace a Lee so I just ordered a Redding Competition seater to try out. It's an expensive alternative, but still not holding my breath.

Hornady New Dimension Seating Die ---- I give anything a chance so I have one. I won't bother with any more because the sleeve is so sloppley fitted it doesn't do a thing for better seating than conventional dies.

I had one and made something more useful out of it. If you want a sliding-sleeve seater get a Forster. When they're available again, that is.

+1 on the Forster. I have a set in .243 Win and love it!

I have Forster/Bonanza and Redding Benchrest dies, seems like the Hornady New Dimension dies
are just as good and cost less. Not getting rid of the others, but all of my recent buys (last couple years)
have been Hornady. VERY satisfied. Makes really straight ammo.
