OK, so lots of loading bench pic's here, and MAN some nice benches!! I know there must be others here that either dont have the room, or that extra room needs to be used for other things also, so lets see what we have built! I have not built anything yet, but Im planing out a top that attaches to the top of my WorkMate. Im planing on something that can be hung up when not used, and the press, and other tools are removeable from that top. So lets see what you guys have used. I need some ideas!

Not certain if this one is portable enough to suit your needs or not. The bench is very stable and can easily be moved by 2 people.

Made this one for my friend Bryan a few months ago. When moving the bench, the bench is 29" wide, so it will go through most doors without a problem. The bench has had several " Mods " done to it by Bryan since it was built.( the seat is now removable ) He has a larger press on it now.Everything works just fine. The bench is " Free Standing, ( it isn't bolted to a wall or the floor ).

The bench is tremendously strong and offers plenty of storage for the beginning reloader.

Most of use spent much time and effort making sure our benches are very non-portable. I don't want mine to move a millimeter. Ever.

When I first started loading I used a plywood stand that the press mounted on. As long as I wasnt doing huge amounts of full length sizing of rifle brass it worked quite well.

Nice work there Ben, Not all people can have the luxury of a permanent bench. Mine is made of 3\16 steel plate with 2 ground rods attatched.

Ben, while that is a very nice bench, calling it portable is a bit of a stretch. I kind of think the OP had in mind something you could take to the range. I have thoght about welding up a reciever mount for the truck so that I could bolt up an RCBS Jr. that I have. Now I would not want ot use it all the time, but it might be nice to play around with.

I made a press mount that inserts into a Reciever hitch and comes uop to the level of my tailgate. I have not used it yet but I would say its quite portable. For extra support I considered putting a jack under the hitch to minimize movement.

I just use my HDS W press which doesn't get bolted to anything and take along a card table to hold my stuff - to keep from having to try and measure my powder charges I have vials that I premeasure and fill with partial charges. In the past I used my Lee Turret on a Black and Decker Workmate, I got that idea from the internet

you can take a design like this
http://www.groundhoghole.com/aleximages/bench1.JPG
put a cleat on the bottom for the work make to lock onto and have the best of both worlds.

Thats a very cool bench Ben! i could see that the fixed seat could be a pain to work with. At least for me. Some nice ideas there though!!

Not eaven that.

Back ground... its not that I dont have the room. We do have a good size house... But with two kids, and all there stuff.. well some times you just need to move/set up somewere out of the way. Like move out to the garage, or maybe the back yard on a nice spring day. Off to the shed when you just want to get away from the hubbub of a house with three women in it!!! Just giving me the flexabilty of loading in a diferent place then locked into a corner of the basement. Load up the stuff go to a buddys house... just having the freedom of loading where I want to.

Artful, I like that setup on the workmate!! I never thought to close in the back and sides, and that little shelf on the back. Thats a good idea!

Ben, does it get much more portable than that?

Doesn't Midway sell a stand for a single press? Something wi a heavy base and a single pole with a top? That would fit away in a small space easily.

OK! Here's another idea. Not mine but one I found when looking for ideas several months ago. Still haven't acted on any of them.

This is my old "Bench in a Box". I've since moved out of the apartment and into a house so I've got a proper bench, still have the box though. It worked well, and although heavy could hold enough to reload 500 rounds of .45 Colt at the dining room table and then go back in the closet when I was done.

The 2" receiver mounts are the best way I found to work up loads until I built a range in my back yard.

If you weld studs into the mount and use wing nuts, you nont need any tools either.

I built this one for a friend awhile back.

Yeah I shoot in the back yard all the time, I am thankful that I can atleast until somebody buys the land next to me.

I made this to haul back and forth to the range. The rest of the stuff is in a large tool box. Makes for a nice system and the turrets are interchangable from this press to one I have on the permanent bench.
