I need some advice....
I just picked up a Herters .357 for $200.00,,,,I took it out to the range a couple of time and shooting from a rest the revolver is accurate BUT it consistantly shoots LOW....at 15yds, 25yds, 50 yds...etc....and with all types of hand loads .....
I Have adjusted the rear sight UP as far as possible,,,,still shoots low.....3" at 25 yds....7.5" at 50 yds (but groups were all tight !)

what are my options for correcting this condition.....
filing down the front ramp sight? or??
thanks

File down the top of the front sight. I do this with Colt SAA's that cost $1,000.00 and it works great. Go to the range with your ammo, I place the file on a table and turn the gun upside down. I watch closely the amount of metal being removed from the front sight by the file. I like to place a stack of targets the same diameter as the file under the rear sight so the plane of the top of the front sight is level to the top of the rear sight. File, shoot, file some more, repeat until your zeroed. I place the file perpendicular to the axis of the bore and stroke the front sight along the file by using the rear sight as a pivot point. This way I get a long steady stroke of the front sight on file.

Take plenty of breaks, keep the barrel cool, make sure you don't go too far. It's easy to remove metal but hard to put it back on.

What Felix said + lowering the front sight by carefully fileing or have it milled lower, about .020 to start with or a new lower height front sight if it is replaceable ?

OK,,,last question
for a .357 I run the majority of my loads at 160gr +- / 1200 fps+-......
should I zero this at 25yds or 50?....what is the typical or standard zero for a handgun of this type?

" Typical " is whatever meets the daily shooting needs of the owner of the handgun.

Why don't you answer your own question.

Will you be shooting more at 50 yards or 25 yards ?

For me, the answer would be 25 yards.

At 1200 fps with a 50 yd zero you are only 1/2" high at 25 yds. I use a 50 yd zero for both my .38 sp(900 fps) and my .357 mag (170@1250fps). The .38 spl is only 1" high at 25 yds and I shake more than an inch!:)

thanks all......yes I was thinking that a 50 yd zero is what I would be trying to achieve
