I tested the diameter of a winchester factory slug vs. my home made Lee precision slugs. First I weighed them and both are 1 oz. I tested the winchester slug and dropped it into my mossberg shotgun barrel and the slug fits snugly and slides down the barrel all the way to the reciever of the gun. Now i tested the Lees home made slug and noticed that there is slightly more room around the slug in the barrel. Placing the slug into the shot cup used in the load and testing again reveals that it does not fit without some force.

My question is do I need to worry about the possability of a slug and shot cup jamming in the barrel of the gun? with the forces involved is this even a possability? Many shoot the Lee slugs so any pointers about this condition or what they do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello Mossbergman, this test is very important first test towards safety anf accuracy, try it with every wad that you have till you find a wad that is snug enough that you need to apply 6 to 12 lbs force to push it through and that was will be the ideal wad for you before you load up a bunch!

Here are some of your choices:

I personally like my slugs to stick out a bit to help open up the fold crimp without mangling my wad petals.

You will need .125-16 gauge or .125-20 gauge nitro card in wad below slug to give it a firm base at launch and help
release the slug in time and not cause havoc with accuracy, now some wads need 16 ga while others need 20 gauge cards.
I would like to take the liberty to recomend you buy them from Circle Fly at less than half the price, any company that gives us
better lower prices deserves our business like:
1. Lee Precision
2. MidSouth
3. Circle Fly
My hats off to them for helping us shoot more and have more fun, in times like this!

Lets appreciate the good things we have in life and be thankful, for God is great!

Wow! Ajay... Thank you for your amazingly detailed info and pictures. I read through it and it helps more than most. I agree with the mortimer, its a bleesing having dedicated folks like you helping us new-b's through mind boggling choices out there.

Ajay can I ask you if you know where I could purchase just one of each of the following?

one of each bullet in the following sizes:
- .690 pumpkin ball
- .678 pumpkin ball
- .662 pumpkin ball
- 7/8 oz lee slug
- 1 oz lyman slug
one of each wadding material:
- one .125 nitro card
- one .7 nito card
- some differant sized wads like you show in your photos.

The hardest thing for me as somone just starting out is knowing exactly what size wads vs. what size bullets and molds to get ect. If I had one of each size as a model that I could size with wad hight, I would at least know what fits and what doesn't . Then I would know what size mold to get. As mentioned I'm willing to but this starter kit which will help with sizing but all the places I'm checking like BPI sell everything in bulk so you have to know what sizes you need first. Thanks so much for your reply and info.
