been thinking about picking up a hipoint myself!!! A friend of mine uses one for his boat/rv/camping/general better than a brick gun and LOVES it. Even ran it over once with his truck, boat, and trailer wiped it off and good to go! They are a bit heavy from my experience but appear to be real workhorses especially for the price!!!!

I know the heavy part, the ruger is lighter.

worst part. I can't find any factory loads to run thru it to break it in. other then some HP's, I can find 1 box of RN j words. guess I could get those and loads some up. maybe just a straight diet of cast boolits.

People bash on the Hi-points, but the one in 9mm that i have had a chance to work over pretty good seemed to be one soild gun, IMHO.
If i could pick one up for $100 and change i certainly would, they seem to run well and shoot nice, even if they are a bit heavier than ideal for me at least. Boat/truck/house/toolbox whatever gun doesn't matter how heavy, just that it runs! Simple and well built.

And a Ruger, well we all know they work well!
Two good purchases, i don't doubt in today's craziness that you could make more than your money's worth out of them in a flash if you had to.

Some might consider the HiPoint not be the best to add to a collection it is still a firearm and tee's off the libs. Even though I would prefer the Ruger above I did inherit a HiPoint in .45 few months ago. It shoots cast very well and as stated it is heavy. They do work and are marketed/priced to those that can't afford a HK/SIG but still need a dependable firearm. I've been considering leaving the HiPoint in the truck with the bubba'd Mosin.

a month or so ago, I was at an auction. it had 2 hi points (3 counting the older carbine). the pistols, 1 a 9mm the other a 45acp, when for mid 300's to low 400. needs less to say two days later my dad bought one from a gun shop with a custom holster for 150.

did find some factory ammo, i wish these gunshops would use lube before I pay. last time I bought factory, I think I paid $11 for a box of 50 rounds. (sad I am only 35 and saying that) $26 after tax. :???:

the place I went to must know it is one a few places in the area with any good a amount of ammo.

got to the range.
ruger
with Federal factory rounds jam on all but on mag of 10 rounds but the last. quick fired it off.
reloads with the min charge W 231 5.0grs and a 180gr ppu hp, not enough to cycle the slide right. left the case half way out.

hi point
federal 147gr fp. 50 rounds with two malfunctions. the 8 round mag does not last long. empty it in less then 10secs. the trigger pull is where I like it. (I like heavy trigger pulls)
did shoots some reloads with j words and cast. but I messed up my oal some how and ended up too short. jam city, lol. had double and triple feeds never seen a triple feed. did have some no fires. using standard federal primers. don't know at this point if it was the primers or the guns. I had one primer get punctured by the pin.
