Great Western SA Frame

Would anybody know the alloy used in the frames of the old (1950's) Great Western single action revolvers? Would it be possible to color case harden such a frame without making it too brittle?

They used a very decent investment cast chrome moly. It was the same as Ruger’s composition at the time ( and I don’t think Ruger’s has changed much through the years actually).

It takes case hardening fine, though this is probably an important point to review with your finisher.
