Anyone ever try H335 in the .45Colt for handgun loads? I have some surplus powder that is 10% faster than H335. Thought I might find a home for it in the .45Colt.

Way off base, Robert. Won't work, even with the heaviest boolits. You would be lucky to get 10K cup with a 300 grainer at 30 grains. Load up one round, fully loaded, for a checkout. ... felix

Yes I kind of figured as much. Just needed confirmation. 800X was a total disaster in this cartridge as well. Had more unburned powder on the bench in stuck to my Chrono then I burned I swear.

Going to use my 735 up in my 30-30.

I don't understand your problem with 800X???

For my revolvers using 8.0 grains of 800X has given me great accuracy with 255 to 265 grain cast bullets. Doesn't leave me with unburned powder either.

What kind of crimp are you putting on your projectiles.

Hi

I loaded 8 gr under my 260 gr lead cast boolit. I had unburned powder all over the place. Maybe my crimp was not tight enough but ES and SD were wide. Will tighten down my crimp and try again.

donot know of a 45 colt but 800x works very well in a .41 mag--you may need crimp more and maybe go up a bit

you might get it to work good enough to burn it up if you want to play with duplex loads. Me id use it for trading stock.

Hey thanks for the tip. Loaded up 50 this morning. Put a heavy crimp on the suckers and what a difference. ES was 35 and SD was 7! Avg Velocity out of my 4 3/4" clone was 791 fps. 8 gr 800X under my Mountain Mold 260 gr boolit. Plenty for my Black furry friends that co-habitate this neck of the woods.

Bob, that is great news you've got the 800X working for you now. :-D

I really like the stuff in my two .45 Colts, ones a Taurus Tracker, and the other is an old 1917 S&W 2nd model.

Unique is pretty much the same scenario, decent crimp and it'll do its thing.

I used to have a .45 Colt -- and had problems with ignition now I was using 296-but it was apresure issue and the very large hull --I took some coarse sand paper and sanded the expander down just atouch --went up some on the charge but still conservative- no more problems ever-- then I got really smart and got rid of it and went to nothing but .41s:-D :Fire: -- of course you might not want to go that last step:-D -- was surprized at the 800x giving you trouble as it is easy to ignite -- glad it is working now

I'm going to try some of the WC-735 to which you refer, in the next 2-3 weeks (weather permitting). I'll use a heavy bullet (315gr), over a full case with a magnum primer. I find it closer to H322 than H335.

Let us know how you make out. Weather here is still to cold to do any testing.

I've used H335 and similar speed rifle powders with good success in the .500. VERY low ES and SD--single digits.

I'd give it a try in the Colt, with a heavy bullet (260 gr. or more), 100% loading density, good neck tension (polish down your expander plug), and heavy crimp.

Got a chronograph?
