Last yer I was able to produce 45's at .451-.4515, now they are coming out .449-.450. Any ideas? My lead slugs are the same as last year and have a BHN of 8 and I am annealing my cases until they are a soft red. I am using the swaging press built from the swaging plans in this forum.

I turned my cases upside down and re-annealed them. They are working better. I have a feeling the bottom of the case was not annealing properly. Just a guess.

That's probably a good guess. I heat the bottom of the case until it is bright red when using brass for jackets.

I never measure the rim diameter. It's never going to swell out to the right size. I always measure the biggest body diameter. Sometimes, I see something that kinda looks like a boat tail effect, for the transition to the rim, but as long as I get enough of the body of the bullet to swell out to full diameter, they have shot well.

Annealing was the issue. I took DukeinMaines advice and am using a solding pot to anneal my brass. It works perfectly and the bullets are now swaging to .451.

I give FULL credit to BT Sniper for the Lee 20 pound pot annealer idea.
