Can anybody give me some sort of range in price for buying wheel weights in the raw? I have an opportunity to buy a very very large amount. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Going rate in my country is .50 per pound when you can find them. Only thing is number of Fe and Zn weights is getting more and more. I would say really look over before you buy.

Local salvage yards are offering to purchase at $0.12 lb.. They resale for $0.35 lb. but only have a small supply. A larger salvage yard 50 miles away has a retail price of $0.50 lb. and they have a good supply.

I checked the only local scrapyard, they wanted .85 a pound. I felt this was too expensive and started berm mining to get lead.

I've only paid by the 5 gallon bucket and that was 35 for 1 bucket. now have a buddy of mine that is on the fire department with me that works at a tire shop and is getting them for me for free. By weight i've only ever had to pay .50/ pound that that was for already smelted and fluxed WW muffin ingots.

Yeah $.85/lb for raw wheel weights is way over what I'd pay.

You're going to lose 10-15% to the clips if you have zero zinc or steel.

A 5-gallon bucket runs me $40 - $60, depending on the shop. So roughly $0.26 to $0.40 per pound. Exactly one recycle place in town will sell wheel weights for $0.80 per pound. I'll have to see if I can cull the junk out. I'm running around 25-percent loss due to clips, iron and zinc, so I'd be doing reasonably well if I can pick out only the lead WW.

As others have said, get what you can while you can.

I pay from $25-$40 a 5-gallon bucket.
There are shops around here that charge 50-60, but I'm not paying that. If I had to I prolly would, but there's WWs to be had cheaper.
That's here though. It may be different where you're at.

In Toronto, they buy for .43c per pound and sell for .90c a pound
I just drop off 65lbs of steel and Zinc weights.
I almost lost my Sh!t on the guy at the desk.
The mark up here is crazy now.
4 months ago I was buying for .50c a pound
Back to visiting tire shops.

You can bet that the salvage yards look at this index pricing for their metals - the same as 'we all should be doing' - unless one is over stocked with lead ingots.

I just paid .50/lb. for some mixed lead yesterday.......seems the price has dropped quite a bit since this was from my local scrap yard! As mentioned, there are a lot of zinc and steel weights in there these days, so some time spent with a pair of wire cutters (dikes) will sort out the decent weights.

I just got off the phone with the local yard and they want the same. My hopes of securing isotope cores from the local nuclear pharmacies seems to be falling through. I've been told that due to "environmental concerns", they won't sell it to the public.
