A beauty, for sure. What action is it made from?

That is one fine looking rifle. I assume from your title that it
is a Swedish Mauser action rebarreled to 7x57. Rebored or
new barrel? Did you do that fine looking stock? oh - i just
noticed the double set triggers, too. Neat!

How's it shoot?

Very nice Swede.

Is that a Redfield 3-9X on top?

a target or two with jacketed boolits.

Haven't tried many lead boolits but plan to remedy that soon.

I managed to miss my first deer I ever had the opportunity to shoot at with this rifle. I was standing in the middle of a field taking a rest from my walk back to the truck, when a doe walked out into the field with me about 70 yards away and stopped broadside. I sat in the sitting positon really quickly aimed lord knows where and pulled the trigger, deer turns around and walks back into the woods. In the mean time I short stroke the action and can't get another round in the chamber in time to shoot. Oh well lesson learned and memory that will never be forgotten.

............Blammer, that is certainly a very fine looking (and performing) rifle. I was curious why you were calling it a Swede? That's a 1898 action and the Swede's did not use the 7x57. Nor were any of their rifles made by FN. Was this possibly an action made by FN for a Swedish distributer?

I see the very military(ish) stepped barrel and breech re-inforce. If the action and barrel serial numbers match and are authentic, it wouldn't be Swedish.

VERY nice wood there !! Did you have to cut the back of the barrel and rechamber along with rebore/rifle or is this perhaps a Swede sporting model ?

The man who built the rifle was one of my best friends and he taught me about reloading. This rifle was traded and swapped back and forth between my dad and him a couple of times. Well, he passed away some years back, due to a sudden heart attack, and my dad had the rifle. Now it's home is with me and will stay that way until....

He always referred to it as the swedish mauser.

I'll post all the markings on it and then we'll see what it really is.

My dad had an action exactly like that....it was taken from a dead sniper, snuck up upon from behind by an engineer friend of my dad's when building a pontoon bridge in Germany. The sniper was taking pot shots, and has been for several hours. The friend said enough was enough, picked up an ACP and got in behind the sniper by hook and crook (my dad's friend's words). Gave him a neck shot at about 25 yards away. Stole the gun, took off the action (don't know what happened to the rest of the gun) and sent it home to my dad's house where my mom kept it until after both men came home. My dad was in the Guam area at the time. ... felix
