Fire up those shot makers
I stoped into the local Gander Mountain today at lunch

I looked at the shot
It was priced $49.99 a bag

I guess I will have to get off my duff and order a set of drippers from Lindon to make my own shot

While at Bass Pro Shops' main store some weeks back, I noted that lead shot had passed $45 per 25lb bag. That stuff is definitely going up in price! A few weeks ago I also noticed that scrap lead had passed $1/lb. If you think that's bad, check out this link:
http://www.metalprices.com/

Holy cow, over $1.39/lb! And look at the price of tin! It makes wiljen's plus metal buy seem like all the more a bargain. A word to the wise--time to hoard a stash if you haven't already!

Locally I saw shot at 25 a bag in the spring time, now it's 32! I just wanted a little bit to make some snake shot!

Well Heck I guess I need to head to the scrap yard. As they have Lead for .60 a pound. I thought that was a bit high. I guess I could be wrong?

I actually wanted some 9 or even 12 shot. i believe 12 is what CCI uses in their capsules. But alas no luck. All they had was 6 and 71/2. And it's way too high for my wallet.

EMC, don't know the price, but Ballistic Products has smaller bags of #12. Just about right for making snake loads per Junior's website.

It has gone up along with the other lead. If i remember correctly, they want $38.95 for 10 pounds. Plus shipping. Buy #6s and cut them in half.... I guess I'll have to get by on #9s.

Im selling my MEC 600JR'S! Shot is crazy! Any one wanting them let me know. I'll sell reasonable. $65.00 each for both. 12 & 20 gauge both in excellent shape.

I thought of loading for my shotguns. But it was just a thought. The components are so high and I would have to buy another press. I get the cheapy boxes at WM and that does the whole squirrel/rabbit season for me.

I stopped at the Bass Pro Shop at the Dollyland exit off I-40 in east Tn. yesterday afternoon. A bag of #8 chilled shot was $54.99. So, OK where is the shot entrepreneur here? BvT

The shot prices must be a area thing.

Was at Bob's in Longview, Washington, this past Sunday.
They had 2 bags each, of #4, #5, #6, #8 for only $31.99 a 25 pound bag of Western chilled shot.

I try to pick a bag of shot every so often, more so now that I just got a new 10 ga smokepole in.

I remember selling shot in the early 70's in our retail store for $9.95 a bag.

That's why I started dropping my own earlier this year. I guessed correctly that all prices would go up do to the resrictions on lead and gas prices:mrgreen:

Shot was $49.99 at cabelas too. It's still $34.99 at my LGS, so I stocked up. I'm starting to stock up on reloading supplies too, alot of metals are going higher.

I currently work for one of the Cabela's stores. A lot of people come in and make comments about the prices of shot, bullets, loaded ammo, etc. and assume that it is because of the war in Iraq. What is actually happening according to all of the bullet and ammo manufacturers (as well as electricians and steelworkers) is that China is buying up all of the metal on the world market right now. They have become EXTREMELY industrialized in the last several years, and their government buys metal for every factory in the country at once. They have tremendous buying power and even the largest American companies can no longer compete with them. They set the price and we pay it. I don't think importing things from overseas is a bad thing. Its only bad when we import EVERYTHING and only export jobs and raw materials. Perhaps its starting to catch up to us... just a little enlightenment on the cause of the price increases and a little of my 2 cents.

I guess I'm going to have to find someone with a Littleton and rent it for a couple days. Anyone got one with #6 drippers?
