I am at a crossroads with my reloading set ups. I have two Super 1050's dedicated to 9mm and 45 ACP. I also have a SD-B in 40 S&W. And finally, I have a CH 333 press dedicated to 380 ACP.

How well does the SD-B or even the 550 reload 380? I have heard that the small/short case cartridges don't reload with consistant results. True or not, it is just something I heard.

For those who have had both (SDB and 550), is it worth it to purchase the 380 caliber conversion/quick change for my SDB or just sell it and move up to a 550?

Thanks

the square deals are best left as a set it and forget it type of machine.
i wouldn't hesitate to reload 380's on a 550.
but you could maybe come close in price by just switching out the tool head on the 1050 and using the plate for the 9m.

I've loaded 9mm on my 550 for 20 yrs with no problems. I don't see why 380 would be any different. I would be surprised if such a small difference would cause problems. But you never know.

I loaded lots of 380 on the SDB and never had a problem. Back then I was switching between 9mm, .45, .44, .380 on a weekly basis.

The SDB is an easy machine to switch calibers on. I have done it with 9mm and 357 magnum with no problems.

I load 9mm 38-357 10mm 41 44 mag & 45ACP on my SDB it takes me about 15-20min to convert my SDB over all dies are pre set on a die head for ea caliber.

I can't see were a 380 case would be a lot different then 9mm on a SDB.

Ive loaded a few thousand 380's on my Dillon 550 with no problems , shot from 4 different guns .
you will have to get a 223/380 shell plate though, a 9mm shell plate wont work

380 on a SDB is a breeze and quicker than a 550

I just started loading the 380acp on the 550, the conversion was back ordered but dies were in stock. I got it in and set up 2 weeks ago. Started with ladder loads using 3 kinds of powders for the wife to run threw here p238. Found a nice load using Red Dot and started producing ammo. No issues what so ever with the 550 loading the little 380acp, if your worried about big hands and small places fear not the 550 has enough room for my big banana fingers and the little case with the bitty 100gr boolits.

Hope this helps.
