I went down to the local skeet range and swept up a couple coffee cans of lead shot off the ground. It has a light grey look to it. Does anyone know the easiest way to get the organic material out of it. I dont want to put that **** in my MECH. Thnks......

Basically, you need to run it through a sluice box just like you would do for gold. Lead being heavier will sink and get caught, while all the dirt and debris will be washed away.

A guy I work with bot a cheap small morter mixer from harbor frieght or some place like that. Tumbles it in water for a half hour or so, dumps it into a screen box he made, rinses it with water and has a squirrel cage blower aimed down at it to dry it.

then re-graphites it,,, to keep it from oxidizing.

Whats the best way to regraphite? Do you just dump some in the mortar mixer with dry shot, or do you need to add some oil or water to get the graphite to stick? I've got about 50 pounds of graphite sitting and know where I can get cheap shot, so this idea has been percolating for a while.

just add it in while it rolls around, it will coat it.
similar to moly coating bullets the shot kinda impacts it onto each other.
you don't need much.

My uncle would run a vacumn cleaner hose over his back and vacumn the dirt away. My dad said red ants collected shot around their nests.

Guy I buy my reclaimed from washes it off in a cement mixer, dumps it out to dry then regraphits it in the mixer. Reclaimed dirty is .60lb and clean and graphited ready to load is $1. Worth it to me to buy 300lbs at a time at $1lb as opposed to $38/25lb bag

Be sure to use less graphite than you think it needs. A little goes a loong way. You can start small and add more if needed.
