Guys,

I bought the 247 gr NOE Whisper mold. Have done some work with it in the 300 ***.

I have a Savage bolt rifle with a 22" 1:10 Douglas barrel. Have gotten curious if the 247 might be used in the 308 Win. Have a AA5744 but little else that might be appropriate.

Anyone done any sub and low supersonic loading for the 247 in 308??

Sure would appreciate the info!

No, but I have 235g plain base accurate that I hope to horseshoe into an Ishapore rifle. I'm thinking trail boss should make for some very fun thumpers.

I did some research a while back as to max weight bullet for a 1 in 10 twist. I went to the guys website that was making 300 whisper and another at the guy who was doing 300 blackout. I don't remember exactly where the cutoff was, (I was trying to avoid a baffle strike in my suppressor when making max weight subsonic rounds) but I think max weight / length for 1 in 10 is 220 grain. After that you are a test pilot.

Understand ... wasn't planning to mount the 30 cal can on the .308 with these projectiles. Will save that for the 16" 1:8 300 BLK. But thought it might be interesting to try the case bullets for plinking and see what the accuracy was like. I do make the Lyman 30 cal 311299 boolit as well. Has served well in 30-30.

1:10 stabilizes that NOE 247 just fine. Jacketed bullets need more twist than cast since they're lighter for their length.

Trailboss works well in my 30-06 with that boolit, probably would in the 308 as well, as would all manner of fast burning easily ignited flake powders like Unique and faster. Since pressures are so low with subsonic cast loads you want something that will burn easily at low pressures. Blue Dot is getting to be on the slow side and Red Dot probably on the fast side. Anything inbetween should work well in appropriate amounts.

Tried the 13gr red dot load in my Rem 308 with the NOE Boolit, but the holes in the target were a bit oblong.

Have not had good results with the Ishy's 1:12 twist and sub or super boolit loads with Lee 170 and 160 weights sized .309". I so would like this weight (240gr) to work in my Ishaphore 2A1, it shoots 150gr. jacketed 1MOA

Jim, that 2.8 load looks like a Moose Killer Par Excellence!

Any idea on the velocity of these loads?

Did you tumble lube?

Jim

Have you shot these heavy weights at 50 yards and 100 yards yet ?

I tried a dummy round and my 235g fits NICE in the Ishapore. Only issue is the magazine. I can't get more than three rounds in the magazine without binding. They are just too long. I'm still going to work up the load. I can live with four rounds if it shoots well.

Nanuk, I think I'd be hard pressed to pick between the 2.6 and the 2.8 loads.

Ghostrider, no chrony, no clue. Only thing I can tell you is it sounds like a 22. The intent behind the development was a 30 caliber load for my wife to shoot in my 308 bolt gun.

Houseproduct, I lubed the boolits with my Graphlox.

Ben, not yet. That's on the list for the coming spring, though. Film at eleven.

To DeanWinchester's comment about the magazine problem, It's been over a decade since I loaded anything other than 22LRs in a magazine. I just don't do any kind of shooting that requires a quick second shot. Most of my shooting is at paper tigers and they're stapled to a board.

Let me ask you guys a question. I know people say as long as you don't compress Trail Boss you really can't get too much in the case. Just fill it to the bottom of the shoulder or so. I don't like that at all.

I want to load my 235g plain base bullet to around 1100-1200 fps or so. Just BARELY supersonic. 14.0 of Trail Boss does not compress when I seat this bullet to where I need it. I plan to start around ten and work up. Would 14.0g be a safe maximum?

Thanks fellas!!

all the Trail Boss info is no longer available to me.

it read, IIRC, to base of seated boolit is MAX, 70% of that is MIN

do not compress

But it also said that was for bullets within the normal range of use for cartridge.

for heavier than normal, the IMR document appeared to be silent.

The 1-10" SOMETIMES stabilizes in my 300 blackouts. I have several 1-10" barrels for supersonic hunting. I tried the 247 noe and found it stabilizes in 2 of the 3 barrels.
Not exactly a direct answer to your question though.

Plenty safe as far as pressures if used in modern guns. Might not shoot accurately, but won't hurt the gun.

don't understand if you wanna go slow, why be filling the case full? I would take that bullet with trail boss and slow up till it only goes POP. Always look thru barrel just to make sure its empty at that slow speed. You can get some amazing groubs at slow speed.
