Hello Folks,

One of the distributor exclusives listed on the Ruger website is a New Model Blackhawk with a Bisley-type grip, and chambered for the 44 Special cartridge. The top strap appears to be flat, without the "ears" on other New Model Blackhawks.

Is this one of the small frame guns that is unsuitable for 44 Rem Mag chambering?

Thanks, Tom

I've got one of the original Lipsey 44 special Flat tops from a few years back....My opinion only--I don't load hot loads in it..I don't load "ruger only loads" in it...it's a wonderful 44 special with reasonable loads...dead accurate and comfortable to shoot (by the way...it isn't a Bisley)...I've got a couple of 44 magnum super Blackhawks and thats what I shoot my big booming stuff with (when I feel like I just got to hurt myself)...Those smaller frame "flat tops" of modern vintage are great guns but the reason they don't make them in 44 mag is probably because they are not comfortable with it in 44 mag.

I have one too and like Monge says,,,240gr solid at 800fps will do pretty much everything you would want to do. I also have an SBH Bisley .44 mag with the barrel bobbed to 5", but I shoot mostly Specials in it as well.

A 240 gr slug at any speed is a formidable chunk of lead flying down range. Better to hit what you're aiming at, than trying to blow them down with muzzle blast.

All I asked was whether this was the small frame size. It appears that it is. Thank you.

Tom, yes the Specials are the smaller frame. You can still find some of the 50th Anv 44 Magnum Flat Tops from 2006 if you want the same revolver is a large frame. They all came with 6.5" barrels. Here is one I chopped, ect

Actually, I don't want a 44 Magnum at all. I'm looking for a gun to use in a conversion, and I would like to start with a Bisley grip frame. That's why I was asking about the frame size, to determine if the gun might be suitable for my conversion project. It is not. Thank you to everyone.
