Okay I am 33 years old and from TN. I love my Glocks, don't get me wrong. I still love me some 10MM and .45 GAP. But, I keep finding myself drawn to my revolvers, especially my Single Actions. I am too young to be into these. I took my Blackhawk in .41 magnum out today, and all I could think of is I need to get one in .45 Colt!!!

I'm almost 50. Never been an ardent handgun guy, but have always had a couple of .22's, a .38, a 9mm for carry, and my beloved Colt Series 70 .45. But, I recently became involved in Cowboy Action and have been hopelessly smitten woth Colt SA's and their clones...specifically those chambered on .44 Special. There's just something about the sound of a 250 gr. SWC smacking my 100 yd gong that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy....
You're not alone...

I definitely prefer revolvers over automatics. I have my Glock 26 and 17, but they rarely get carried or used.

There is nothing wrong with you at all.

If what you've got is an affliction I hope I keep it too! I own a set of K model Smiths, a K22, a K32 a K38 Combat Masterpiece and a Model 19, all with 4 inch barrels and full target treatment. These will NEVER be sold or the set broken up, at least as long as I'm alive!

I've had quite a few autos over the years. The one thing I bought a few years ago, and regret not getting 3 of was an old police trade in .38 Smith and Wesson. Well used, scratched and beat from decades of police use, it now is my first line of defense for HD. What's not to love? No fiddling around with safeties, no wondering if one is in the chamber or not. The simplicity and reliability is exactly what I'm going to want when it's 3am and I'm coming out of a dead sleep! I had a single action in .22 Mag, and selling it is one of the only firearm regret stories I have.

I have the same problem I love revolvers. At some point you then get to the point where you want the bigger calibers, 45lc, 44mag and hopefully for me soon a 500sw.

I also mainly have revolvers. I am only 32. I have a few of the semiauto's but since I reload, they don't get shot much. Much easier to punch the brass out and put it back in the case than crawl around on the floor picking it up. Not to mention there are only a very few semiauto's that chamber the rounds I like to shoot. None that chamber the 45-70. I can also shoot 9mm and .45 acp in my revolvers so they are versatile. With 3 guns I can shoot 6 calibers. Hard to do that in an auto. I also find that revolvers for me feel more accurate. And they are just plain fun to shoot.

I'm beginning to realize mine is more than just a passing fancy. It's to the point now that if I'm going any further than from the house to the chicken coop, I strap on my 4 3/4" Uberti 44 Special. Building fence, cutting firewood, feeding the calves, you name it, I'm likely wearing my new love. I was outside all day to day piddling, reloading, regulating the sights on a couple of Dad's revolvers, and the .44 was strapped on ALL DAY!
Sometimes when I am in the house, I take it off the shelf in the closet just to look at it (again). Yes, there is something wrong with me....:holysheep

Sounds perfectly normal too me. I'm 66 and shoot both auto and revolvers. At least with the revolvers I don't have to worry about some brass hound scarfing up my brass before I get to it. Frank

I will be switching over to revolvers this year:

They will shoot anything you put in them, boolits, round ball it is all good.
They will shoot black powder well.
They will shoot wax bullets all day long.
They will shoot gloolits.

There is no downside to a relvolver.

Not a bad obsession to have! Many of us have it, myself included. My first revolver was a Ruger Bearcat, purchased when I was 16. (yes I know you were supposed to be 21, but no one cared back then):) It was not my last, and my collection is still growing. I have picked up several autos along the way, but revolvers are my first love. Welcome to the club!

Nothing wrong with you, other than being afflicted with the same obcession we all are. I turned 39 in January, and while I enjoy shooting my semi auto pistols and rifles, I get the most fun when shooting my SAA, my 1895 Nagant revolver, and my Sharps. There is something about those I can't shake, whether it is the historical aspect behind them, or how they involve the shooter.

Ha-ha! Sounds like your saying only us dinosaurs are the ones who like revolvers?? I have never been much of an auto-pistol guy, preferring revolvers since my teens. Still get funny looks at the range from some of the "mall ninja" types when I pull out some round guns, but most of those looks and comments pretty much cease when I paste a few one-inch groups up on my targets!! har-har. Someone else mentioed not having to "police your brass" as well. It's a plus, to be sure.

So enjoy your ailment. A LOT of us do!

Every time I fire a semi-auto after having been shooting my revolvers for a while, my first reaction to all that shuckin and jiving in my right hand is "Holy Cow! The gun's falling apart on me!"

Never had an auto that had a trigger like my Smith & Wessons. Not even close!

Never had an auto that would shoot as accurately as my Colt Officer's Model will.

Never had an auto that didn't have to have the load regulated exactly right to make it go bang a second time.

Never had an auto that would shoot the same cartridges as a lever-action. (Well, ok, but .22 rimfire don't count.)

Never had an auto that fired a cartridge I would trust to kill deer.

Conversely:

Never had a revolver that would stovepipe. Or fail to go into battery.

Never had a revolver that needed a "safety"

Never had a revolver that you had to carry "cocked and locked" to bring it to action quickly.

Never had a revolver that made me search for the brass in the weeds or the snow.

Never felt I needed 18 cartridges. Six .357s is at least equal to 18 x 9mm.

Never had a revolver break its' extractor in the middle of a string.

Never had a revolver that I was just itchin' to get rid of.

I shoot my 1911's because I have to, I shoot my Colt SAA's because I want to. Then some people bring their 1911's to cowboy matches. We call them "bottom feeders."

How can you love a Glock when it doesn't have hammer? Let alone a cylinder.

If it ain't round, it ain't right.
I am pushing sixty so hard that if this was Pennsylvania I'd already have a ticket, and I love round guns. In my youth, I was sold on the 1911 by Jeff Cooper, but when I became an adult, I quickly found that revolvers were cheaper to feed, cheaper, more widely available, and I didn't have to chase brass. Plus, you had be more stupid with a revolver than with a semi-auto to shoot yourself. For a given dollar, to the capacity of the cylinder, it's darned hard to beat a revolver. (And John Wayne with a bottom feeder? Don't be silly).

when i was 21 my first centerfire pistol was a colt combat comander in .45. it was a great pistol wish i still had it.now this was when .45 surplus was 7.50 a hundred or 5.00 for corrosive. i used to carry it with me on the tractor to shot groundhogs. would lose the brass all the time. so i got a ruger .357 b-h. never lost any brass after that.

fecmech, you are not alone. When Moses came down from the mountain with the tablets, he had one that said -And firearms shall be made of carbon steel. Thou shalt not make firearms of stainless steel, and plastic is right out.

I remember the Commandments but do covet the firearms of others sometimes.

I love me some revolvers, too.

SA or DA, doesn't matter. They are just what a handgun should be. I like them blued or stainless and even have one in nickle.

To be honest, I do have some semi-auto handguns. One Springfield Armory (blued) 1911A1 in .45ACP (just the way God told John Moses Browning to make it), a Colt Combat Commander 1911 (nickle) in .45ACP and a German Luger vet bring-back from WWII (the Big One).

At last count, there were some 40 handguns around the estate and those are the only ones that aren't revolvers. And there are NO plastic guns hereabouts.

I have a love affair with my blackhawks/vaqueros. Solid, quick reliable and they just feel right. I own 2 1911's, but trust my revolvers more. They get into your blood. The only weapon I own who's basic design is not over 100 years old is an AK47 ( but it has proven itself to be rugged and reliable as the others) I shot it rarely--- Its simply a worst possible case weapon. I have to force myself to carry one of my 1911 as a carry gun. I am slightly faster with it in a string of five, it reloads slide lock to first shot on steel in about 2.5 seconds and shoots a real load... I feel like a cheating husband! Within 3-4 days I will again be packin' a 4 5/8 Blackhawk or more often a 3 1/2 inch birdshead vaquero in 45 acp-- slower to reload by 3x easily... so I have the same sickness

It must be contagious .... I am 29 and have started drooling over the same firearms. Colt SA copies, Sharps, trap doors, pistol caliber levers, rolling block. My dream is a 45-70 Sharps with a full length stock. I would trade my AR in a heart beat right now for one.

I went through the same type of process when I walked into a gun shop for an SKS but fell in love with an H&R single shot .45-70. The gun was to handle pigs and possibly mountain lions on my ranch. I waited for several weeks, asking myself "Have I lost my mind?".

Now I am really pleased with my .45-70 purchase and have grown to understand that I love single shot rifles but have little regard for semis.

That is just the way it is.

"When I grow up, I'm gonna own a government model .45 auto", was the only dream my eight year old self had:-D. Was sick of seeing the Colt SAA pattern pistols in movies and TV, as a kid I knew Colt wasn't the only game during the black powder days. So guess what came first, and second, then a Glock, then a USP. My tastes started changing when I was 28, as far as S/A's go, after reading some Keith (get you a copy of Sixguns), though got my first revolver when 24, a D/A Colt .357. .22 RF is the only auto that's been to the range with me in some time.

Disclaimer up front, I'm 60. I grew up with revolvers and 1911 style autos, and they are still my two favorite types of handgun.

Like the OP, I like revolvers. Being able to put any bullet style in them, at any velocity that will get the bullet out the barrel is a real pleasure. Most of my revolvers are DA, but some SAs have infiltrated and become much loved. I do enjoy my 1911s, except when one bounces a piece of brass off my face. As a compromise, I have revolvers in 9mm, 10mm, and 45 ACP.

I'm not that old, definitely grew up after the revolver age had ended. I love my Combat Commander, I really do, it's what I carry. I've put enough rounds down range I trust it completely, we're talking <.005% failure rate. I have nothing against a Glock, Kahr, Sig or any other semi-auto. I just like the 1911 more for various reasons.

When I acquired my first single action I found myself liking it for all the same reasons, and a few more. Simple, solid, reliable, great trigger. Chambered in more powerful stuff than a semi-auto and no picking up brass. Short barreled single actions are quite concealable, more so than I thought they would be. Some of the custom work done to single actions makes me drool, way more than anything done to a semi-auto. There's something about a single action that's almost provocative. Get one and you'll want another for sure. If you don't then I say there's something wrong with you.

I swore I'd never own a double action revolver because I'm more of a rifle guy and all about the trigger, but the damn single actions now have me wanting one. I fear if I purchase something like that rather pretty snub nosed S&W 629 44 Mag I will like it way too much for any respecting rifleman.

Just never buy a Dan Wesson ! You think you have revolver - itis now.
Have Rugers, Smith's, Colts, old and newer. But get a Dan Wesson and learn to use that adjustable barrel gap and you will look at all those others as mear BBQ items.
Only revolver I have owned that will shoot as good is a BFR 454. Probably a freedom might but then I can get at least 2 DW's for the price of oneof those bank busters.
Swap barrel length in 3 minutes or even change calibers IF you are willing to do a little lathe work on a easily removable barrel.
So anyway stay away from Dan Wesson's. Leave them alone.. Never shoot one !

I was just at the range, 5 yard line drawing from the holster and hitting playing cards dead center. Ya, the 1911 is a quarter second faster on the Pro-Timer and easier to hit with. Still the Colt SAA hits harder. The extra 20 gr of boolit weight and 50 fps makes a difference. And the revolver allows for boolits with large flat meplats. Like I've said before I shot a skunk while plowing my Dad's field with a .45 ACP hollowpoint and recovered the spent boolit after it when through the skunk and only 3 inches of plowed dirt. I'd never carry a .45 ACP in the field where I might encounter a cougar or a bear. We only have black bear around here.

I'm 33, and have been into revolvers since I was a little kid. Just never had an interest in autos. Never had any younger friends that were into them, though. They approached it like many do, and viewed them as just guns for old guys. I liked the simplicity of function, and I think they're a lot safer. To date, the only auto I own is my 1911. And I still prefer my revolvers.

I'd have to agree with the comment about you still being a single man. I do all that same stuff, but I'm not the least bit concerned with it. I've been married for a few years, though. We just bought a house, which was required to have a small gun room for me, and a place to hang my giant John Wayne print. The wife is even ok with my shooting glulits in the garage.

There's nothing wrong with you. You're just ready for the finer things in life.

Still cant get over the OP. Im younger than you and 90% of my pistol collection is revolvers. When your young and can handle the power thats when you use revolvers. Then again im all about what a round is capable of. 10mm feels a lot different out of an N frame smith revolver. I view autos as good starter guns to get women into learning how to handle a hunting pistol.

As a general rule, I own auto's for utility, and revolvers for pleasure. There are exceptions, but not many,

Shot dad's first generation Colt 45 SAA Artillery model when I was 5 (his hands wrapped around mine). I've loved Colt SAAs ever since.

You can tell he liked it too; that's it in his hand.

I'm younger than you and I don't give a fig for any kind of semi automatic handgun. Only single action revolvers as far as I care. Otherwise, put a buttstock on it.

Just got back from a range conference of law enforcement firearms instructors, they had all the latest gadgets to put on an AR, lots of high cap plastic pistols, but about half the guys shot my set up of frontier guns at a target array set up and timed. The reaction was more than positive. Some of the guys I think are becoming converts. Then one guy who really got hooked turned out to be the one that won a single action Ruger off the prize table. He's toast, hook line and sinker.

You are"normal". If you "Like" a .41 Mag. you will probably "Love" a 44 Mag. Keep up the "range time", it is "good time".

If something's wrong with you it's wrong with me. Let me know what it is. My first firearm purchase when I was 26 was a Ruger Superblackhawk Hunter, I'm 33 now. Don't get me wrong, I like all sorts of pistols and revolvers, but single actions are what I really like the most, and I don't see any change at all. I may have to self medicate with a Blackhawk in .44 Special soon.
