If so, what was the cause. Do you know of one beaten useless? I wish to know its true limitations without actually going there. Ace[smilie=1:

Ace,

I don't have any first hand knowlege... but, in my family, we have 6 of the new model Vaqueros:Fire: and several 3 screw & flat-tops. None of these have had any issiues shooting "normal":roll: 357 mag loads. The place where I would be concerned is if it were to be a 45 Colt, because the cylinder is the same outside dimensions as the 357 and will have less meat in the walls. Mechanically they have all been Ruger tough and run well straight from the box.

What are you planning to use it/them for? Any caliber preference? I only know of one person who has truly worn out a pair of Rugers, but he shoots a couple hundred rounds a week and dry fires for 2-3 hours a night:shock:. I am not sure if Bud still maintains that schedule.

All of the other CAS shooters that I know with Rugers have them still running strong.

I have 2 NV in .45 and 2 heavy Vaq.s in .45. I wondered what had been too much for NV. I don't want to go there. Ace

Ace;
Just hold the NV Rugers to the original Colt specs regarding reloads in .45 Colt. I would NOT exceed factory pressures in the NV.

I don't have a horse in this race, and likely won't in the future. But my thoughts on the matter are that the factory-level 45 Colt loads are no disappointment as to utility.

About 90% of my revolver shooting in 32, 357, 41, 44 Masgnum and 45 Colt gets done with "standard weight" SWC's at 900-950 FPS these days, and are all-day loads in all of these calibers. Add on the 38 Special and 44 Special, too. I know this runs counter to the current fashion of running heavy-for-caliber round flat nose castings at top-end velocities for hunting, but the deer around here are pretty small--and mastodons haven't been sighted locally for some time.

255 s/w bullet and 9.0 of Unique will work just fine in a NM Vaquero and will be a good top end load. This will give you 900 or over depending on barrel length. Your vaquero will last forever if you stay in this range.

I have an old vacaro and a new blackhawk in 45 colt. The new black hawk has less meat that the old vocaro but it is still more beety than my old colt clone I'v had for years. I never hot rod any cartridge and keep all loads near factory specs. I know guys who push the 45 colt up to near 454 Cassul balistics and I say if they want a 454 buy one.

I have shot a good number of .45 Colt Black Powder loads (in a long barreled revolver, 7.5", you can get nearly 1000 fps with a 250 gr bullet) and frankly, that is a pretty decent load for "serious work" including hunting for deer. I have shot all of my deer with a 250 gr running from 1200 fps-1300 fps (except the last one killed with a 310 Lee RFGC) and frankly, I could have done as well with the black powder .45 Colt. Good bullet design and 900 fps plus is not to be sneezed at for relatively close range deer hunting (under 100 yards). I would NOT feel undergunned.

As we all know (or should know) placement is nearly everything.
