I just purchased 16 lbs of Alliant American Select powder. I've been casting boolits for .44 and .38 for several years, and use this powder.

Looking for good data for 9mm with this powder. My boolit is 356402 123 grain with lyman #2 alloy. I used to load 5 grains of bullseye with cast in 9mm. My question is, can I use similar load with American Select?

New member, first post. Thanks for any consideration, BR

Big Ron, I have not used American Select so don't expect too much help from me. I see that it is made for shotgun loads and some pistols. I've used BE and other shot powders but I usually find a load in one of my books to give me a starting point. When that is not available, I suggest that you go to the powder maker's site and ask for help:http://www.alliantpowder.com/questions/default.aspx

4g behind a Bayou Bullet 124g LRN gave me 1065 FPS at OAL 1.10
3.4g gave me 956 FPS

I did not have the need to go any higher.

Thanks for the info Todd. I was there, I just wanted a little re-assurance. The 9-mm is new to me due to a few friends wanting me to help them with less expensive means of going bang. The latest shortages of powder, primers, and bullets has brought more interested people into the fold. I appreciate your comments to a noob question. BR

Alliant lists 4.7 grains as max for a 125 grain FMJ with 1050 FPS and 33,100 psi in their last published powder manual.

Been using Am. Select for years for 9mm cast loads. It and Green Dot are my go to powders for the caliber.

Yes. 4.0gr is what I shoot for 125gr cast. Very accurate.

+whatever on the 4.0 grain load. Durimg the last big ammo scare--Thank you Mr. President--I bought a pound simply because it was all that was here. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked in my 9mm. Using either the Lyman 356-242 or their 356=402 I got nice round groups with mild recoil. My S&W M-39-2 gobbles them up.

Love the stuff....super clean. I use it in .38 and 9mm
I load 115gr jacketed and 124gr cast over 4.4gr
