My brother came across a 1957 copy of Popular Handguns. He thought that since me and this book are the same age I'd like to have it . He was right. :)
Not in great shape but very cool. Some of these prices almost made me cry. I realize in 1957 these prices were still a lot of money but
a cased set-one each of Browning .25 standard,.380 and Parabellum engraved $390.00

It's fun looking at all of those old gun prices.

Those old prices are indeed fun to look at.... but if you consider inflation the picture changes RADICALLY.
$100 in 1957 dollars computes to $817 today.
In 1962 I was making $1.92 per hour in a copper mine. That $100 represented over fifty hours' income BEFORE deductions.
Fifty hours' work at my last job usually generated around $1500, which is more than sufficient to buy a Ruger .44 single action which cost about $100 back then in '57. Guns are CHEAPER, at least for me, than they were then. Figure the cost in hours-of-work for a TRUE evaluation and comparison.
