I'm looking at molds again. So many 45 caliber bullets around I thought I'd see if anyone here had developed a preference for that big bore magnum.

I like Veral Smith's LFN GC mold at 320 gr in the 454 Casull.

Those look nice. A little steep for me now.
I might have to hold off and go with something cheaper, maybe Lee, till I get things going.
Sure can't shoot factory stuff! heh heh

The Lee 452-300 six-cavity mold is about $40 at Midway and makes a very good gas check bullet. Use wheelweights up to about 1200 fps, add some linotype to the mix for higher velocities.

Thanks Tatume,
I lucked out and got a lifetime supply of linotype, I usually use a Lyman #2 mix for my hotter stuff.
If winter would just let us loose some so I could get some things done.

The .460 is a funny gun made to shoot light bullets to long range. It has a gain twist. It is hard to change it to a .454 or .45 Colt with heavy boolits.
I have no experience with them so you need to spend to experiment. I wish I could help.

It's gonna be fun. So far all I've shot is Buffalo Bore with 300grn jacketed.
Way too steep for my blood.
Won't be too long and I'll have dies, a supply of brass, and a new mold to start rolling my own.
Also going to mount a Burris 2-7X32 on this one.

I only shoot one load in 460 S&W cases. It uses three 45 cal round balls in each case. I dont have a 460 S&W but I do have a Bond Arms Texas Defender in 45 colt/ 410 that handles the 460 tri ball loads just fine Roy. At handgun fighting range about 10 steps it groups about 8". Thats better than a double tap.

Three .45 RBs? That oughta be a helluva bear load.
