Ok guys I am an IMR4350 user I use it in 243 270 30-06 and even have a pretty good load for it in 30-30. Because of the paranoia and the sudden run on reloading components I am not able to get IMR4350 but did manage to get a couple pounds of H4350 a pound of IMR4831 and a pound of Ramshot Hunter.

I have never used any of those powders and was wondering what y'alls take was on them. I assume that H4350 is going to be very similar to IMR4350. The others I have not even played with I guess thats going to change.

Have any of you used these powders? What were your impressions of them?

My O6 loves my home swaged 180 grain 8s bullets set .020 off the lands with 54gr IMR4350 with a WW LRP.

Ive never used IMR4350, but I use H4350 for every bolt rifle I own.

I've only used IMR 4831 out of those powders and only for 270. Very accurate. I have heard IMR4350 is also very good in 270.

I use IMR 4350 in my 7x57 and it does well with j-words. I've got the same question, whats the difference between H-4350 and IMR 4350. Powder choices are SLIM in my area aswell.

Ramshot Hunter is a very good powder for .270. I have some fast, accurate loads for 130 grain and 150 grain. It meters very well.

I probably use more 4831 in rifles then anything else. As to 4350s id about bet since hodgdon and imr merged its probably now the same powder. Even if not theres not a big differnce in burning rate. If you stick to book loads and arent pushing the envelope for the most part any powder charge with one is safe with the other. No experience with hunter but ive used big game quite a bit and its a good powder, especially if your loading progressively as it meters much better then the others. All those powders will work well in the 270 and 06. 4831 and maybe hunter are borderline to slow for the 243 and all of them are to slow for the 3030.

I even have a pretty good load for it in 30-30.

May I ask the details on your 30-30 load, Is it for cast by chance?

actually no its a compressed load from an old IMR DATA MANUAL. 1971-1972 with a 150 grain bullet it shows max load as 42.5gr compressed for velocity of 2300 36000cup
37.5gr compressed with a 170gr 2215fps 37300cup these loads are a tad slow but in my winchester 94 Very accurate.
edited to add the obvious caveat reduce by 10% and work up.

I`ve used large amounts of IMR 4350 and AA-4350 in quite a few rifles with excellent results with jacketed loads. With IMR4831 I had mixed results of accuracy in the `06 and 7mm Rem. Mag. rifles no matter how I varied the componets. I switched to H-4831 and my problems settled down immediately. I also haven`t tried Hunter yet as I have a large amount of other powders that I know how they work for me.Robert

H4831 works very well in my 270 with the 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. H 4350 does better with the 100 grain Speer for me. I've never loaded any RamShot.
It looks like you are set for a little while with those powders. Hopefully untill this madness eases up a little bit. I went out the weekend after the election and stocked up so I was prepared for this shortage this time.

I use all you mentioned in various rifle loads. Recently loaded 270 win with ramshot hunter 90 gr hp sierra for varmints 59 gr charge with excellent accuracy,Also loaded the ramshot in 7mm-08, 300 wsm with excellent accuracy. I myself really like ramshot it meters very good through my various meters.

I loaded IMR4350, H4831, and RE19 in my 30/06's and .300 WSM for years until I tried Big Game and Hunter last year. In 3 different rifles all had equal or better accuracy with better velocity and standard deviation using the Ramshot powders. I have plenty of both powders on hand now.

Can I just confirm that this load is 37.5gr H4350 behind a 170gr lead projectile in the Winchester 94?

Lee list a 35-38gr charge! Would 30 or 32 gr be a good starting point?

Is the Hunter a flattened ball, or truly spherical? Reason I'm asking is I have Accurate surplus powder, DP85 that says it's ok with Hunter data. However, the DP85 is a spherical powder like Accurate's 2700 used to be, and the DP85 seems to burn more like it. 2700 used to be spherical, I got a lb a couple years ago and now it's a flattened ball. Someday I'm going to figure out what mom did with the 8lb of the old 2700 I had when we moved.

I too have DP-85 that I got from Powder Valley several years ago and use Ramshot Hunter Data and use it for .280, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Rem Mag and even thou there is no load data for .308 as long as use over 40grs I have good accuracy. I use for both j-bullets and cast.

+1, most of the Ramshot powders meter very well.

The latest powder burn rate chart on the Hodgdon web site shows H4350 as being a hair slower than IMR4350. However, since they're next to one another, my *guess* is that they now are basically interchangeable.

http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html

I use H4350 in .260 Remington in an AR-10 with very good results (1/2 MOA) using Lapua Scenar 139-gr bullets.

H4350 does not measure perfectly in my Harrell's measure. There's a maximum +/- .2-gr deviation (so almost a half grain), so I have to weigh each charge to keep the Standard Deviation down.

We use H 4831 in 243, 270, 280, 308, 30-06, 7 mm mag., 300 win. mag. With good results. It is better suited to the heavier for caliber bullets. I used it in 257 wby. mag. at first with 100 gr. bullets before going to 7828ssc due to better velocity.

Powder Valley has IMR 4350, it is pretty easy to find as of late.

Has anyone ever tried Hunter in .308 Winchester?
I'm guessing it's too slow?

I recently happened upon a pound (freebie).

with what bullet? Using a 200gr cast you can get loads in the 1800-1900 fps range easily with Ramshot hunter.

I don't have anything that heavy. Wonder what it'd do with something lighter?

It should work. I was looking at the Lee 160gr in QL for sake of argument. 47gr shows 2300 fps with a pressure of 33K PSI.

47g. Wow, that's definitely a case full! I'm betting this powder might lend itself paperpatching fairly well.
